[1:15] <iMatttt> Hey
[1:15] <ReggieUK> was someone looking for cheap 2tb hdds the other day?
[1:15] <DaQatz> Why you find some?
[1:15] <iMatttt> Nope
[1:15] <iMatttt> But links would be good
[1:15] <iMatttt> If you have any
[1:18] <ReggieUK> sorry fraid not, if the guy that was looking for some doesn't want them then I will
[1:18] <ctyler> ShiftPlusOne: that seems more of a jab at e.g., Freescale than at Raspberry Pi
[1:20] <ctyler> ReggieUK: saw 3TB for C$129 here the other day, about ??80. Think the sale's over, but I like the trend.
[1:21] <DaQatz> Last 2tb drive I bought was $70
[1:21] <ReggieUK> These are ??90ish
[1:21] <DaQatz> There were plenty cheaper ay the time
[1:22] <ReggieUK> down from ??120odd
[1:22] <DaQatz> Oi'
[1:22] <ReggieUK> the guy I'm looking for was after 8 of them
[1:23] <DaQatz> Hmm needs a bit storage aye

[2:40] <ukscone> there were some interesting comments on their product disription page
[2:40] <ukscone> a few digs seemingly aimed at raspberry pi although not sure why as two different target markets

[9:42] <ahven> anyone got any cheap core2duo cpu for sale? :P
[10:17] <acfrazier> nope, all I have for that socket that is wolfdale core is a Celeron E3400 I believe
[10:18] <acfrazier> older than that, I have a couple pentium Ds and a Pentium 4 775
[10:22] <ahven> got an P4 HT @ 3
[10:23] <ahven> it is currently the only thing worth upgrading, not planning to buy a new rig soon
[10:23] <ahven> if I wouldn't like gaming, I would be happy right now :)
[10:23] <ahven> damn hobbies
[10:24] <acfrazier> the celeron e3400 is a capable chip, only reason I shelved it is my rig I had wanted to put it in (before I just said fuck it and built a new one) didn't have the right microcode in the BIOS, and I didn't feel like hacking it in and potentially bricking the only PC I had at the time.
[10:25] <acfrazier> I ended up just saving every spare penny for a few months and went all out on something to last the next 5 years.
[10:25] <acfrazier> spent about $1,500, went with a z68 atx mobo, xeon e3-1235, 2 twin frozr 6950s, 16GB of memory
[10:26] <acfrazier> in the future if I desire I can upgrade to 32 when the chips get cheaper, but that's the max the board will take.
[10:27] <ahven> e1400 is maximum supported on this mb
[10:28] <ahven> on celeron dual cores
[10:28] <acfrazier> if you're daring you can just put in the microcode yourself, it's actually really easy with the right kind of BIOS
[10:28] <acfrazier> but with the dell machine I had you could brick it pretty easily
[10:28] <acfrazier> patch the wrong memory address and you were fucked.
[10:29] <acfrazier> newer machines (especially ones you build yourself) are more amicable to patching the BIOS, so I was able to fool a certain OS into believing it was OEM ;P
[10:33] <ahven> :)

[13:17] * IT_Sean sneaks in
[13:17] * IT_Sean is silent like ninja
[13:17] <atts> now where's my damn pi
[13:18] <IT_Sean> the pi is a lie
[13:19] <atts> ohhhh, thanks for clearing that up
[13:19] <IT_Sean> no problem.
[13:19] <IT_Sean> it's 11/1/11
[13:20] <IT_Sean> or 1/11/11 if you are so inclined to format the date in a silly manner.
[13:20] <Thorn_> no its not. get some real formatting...
[13:20] <IT_Sean> ^ beat you to it
[13:20] <Thorn_> damn :p
[13:21] <IT_Sean> you need to be pretty quick to beat me out. 'less it's a monday.
[13:21] <atts> 2011-11-01 08:21:31
[13:21] <IT_Sean> I'm not really all together on mondays.
[13:21] <Thorn_> typing on a phone
[13:21] <atts> and if you use anything else i hate you
[13:21] <Thorn_> kinda slow
[13:21] <IT_Sean> alright, fine, atts. 11/11/1
[13:21] <atts> nope, 2011-11-01
[13:21] <IT_Sean> happy now?
[13:22] <IT_Sean> but putting the 2 and 0 in screws up all the 1ness of it.
[13:22] <IT_Sean> don't you see... IT'S ALL ONES!
[13:22] <atts> not putting in the 2 and 0 screws up my programsssss
[13:22] <IT_Sean> your programs are bastards
[13:22] <Thorn_> needsto be 11/11/11
[13:23] <IT_Sean> Thorn_: what happens at 11:11 on 11/11/11 !?
[13:23] <Thorn_> i only.care for skyrom
[13:23] <Thorn_> skyrim
[13:23] <IT_Sean> o.O
[13:23] <atts> that's the time rpi is going to be released
[13:23] <IT_Sean> that would actually be pretty awesome.
[13:23] <Thorn_> no rpi will be releaaed at 3:14
[13:23] <Thorn_> am
[13:23] <IT_Sean> heh
[13:23] <IT_Sean> you think?
[13:24] <Thorn_> so us up early in the moening.can get the first orders
[13:24] <IT_Sean> :/
[13:24] <Thorn_> k i give up typing on phones
[13:24] * IT_Sean doesn't function well early in the morning
[13:25] <Thorn_> minimum order quantity of 314
[13:26] <Anppa> 11/11/11 is a silly format, it should be 11/11/11 instead!
[13:27] <Thorn_> someone was ha having this argument 1000yrs ago
[13:28] * stasis (~stasis@ has joined #raspberrypi
[13:29] <Anppa> what's to argue, there are RFC's for proper formatting :D
[13:30] <Thorn_> not 1000yrs ago. not sure the wayback machine archives that far back
[13:31] <IT_Sean> well, it damn well should!
[13:31] <IT_Sean> :p
[13:32] <Anppa> that's what I meant, 1000 years ago, 11/11/11! :D
[13:47] <ukscone> morning all
[13:48] <IT_Sean> morning ukscone
[13:48] <ukscone> are you heathens arguing about date formatting again?
[13:49] <ukscone> it's dd/mm/yy and that's that
[13:50] <ukscone> moses uses that on his tablets for the 10 commandents
[13:54] <IT_Sean> Are Moses' tablets Android powered?
[13:56] <ukscone> nah they were iOS
[13:56] <ukscone> where do you think jobs got the idea from
[13:57] <IT_Sean> ahh
[13:57] <IT_Sean> Good.
[13:57] <IT_Sean> iOS > hemmDroid
[13:57] <ukscone> iOS is for braindead ppl who can't think for themselves
[13:58] <ukscone> actaully anything apple is
[13:58] <ukscone> i refusee to let apple kit cross my theshold
[13:58] <ukscone> apart from the itoch the wife snuck in 3 years ago
[14:00] <ukscone> android ain't much beter though as it is too fragmented
[14:00] <ukscone> although google did try to stop that partially with the minimum specs thing but noone listened to them

[17:00] <traeak> hmm...am i wrong or does it seem like the user space part of the GPU driver won't be opened up ?

[17:02] <ctyler> There are some userspace libraries that aren't open yet but I think the plan is to fix that so that just the GPU side is closed. Eben was talking about that on Saturday.
[17:06] <traeak> the GPU side being closed doesn't bother me...that part is OS independent

[18:21] <IT_Sean> Is there some sort of rule that only angry fat people can shop at the mart of wal?
[18:22] <traeak> angry fat people ? huh ?
[18:22] <ukscone> yes it was written into the constitution a couple of years ago
[18:22] <IT_Sean> I never got that memo
[18:22] <ukscone> angry fat people is the new angry birds levels
[18:22] <IT_Sean> HAHA!
[18:22] <traeak> walmart has made itself less appealing to shop at in the past few years
[18:22] <ukscone> you flingy IT_Sean to knock down the walmart customers
[18:23] <traeak> it used to be i to walmart first, then home depot/lowes because of prices of stuff
[18:23] <traeak> then walmart killt their off brands and now i don't even bother there for home stuff
[18:25] <IT_Sean> I almost never go there, but, it was the nearest spot to my office that sells motor oil
[18:27] <traeak> i have bought mobile 1 synthetic there...my dad said to avoid FRAM filters though...
[18:28] <traeak> since i do oil only once a year i'm not motivated to shop around much

[18:29] <traeak> oil leakage
[18:30] <IT_Sean> I think they just didn't top it up fully at the last servicing
[18:30] <IT_Sean> and over the past few hundred miles, it leaked out the one or two drips needed to trigger the "you are 1qt low" idiot light
[18:30] <Jarii> Hi! I just discovered RaspberryPi.. it looks amazing :)
[18:31] <IT_Sean> 'cause i can't figure where all that oil went!
[18:31] <IT_Sean> It isn't leaking out the bottom, it's not blowing through, and it isn't burning off
[18:31] <IT_Sean> hello Jarii. welcome to raspi
[18:31] <Jarii> thanks IT_Sean
[18:31] <traeak> if it burns in small enough amounts you won't notice
[18:32] <IT_Sean> For a 25 year old car, it leaks suprisingly little. Just the odd drop here and there.
[18:32] <IT_Sean> It would have to be a very small amount, otherwise it'd be fouling up my plugs.
[18:32] <traeak> likely the rings have worn some, i wouldn't be surprised if your compression is down
[18:32] <IT_Sean> Compression is high
[18:32] <traeak> rings/cylinder walls
[18:33] <IT_Sean> engine bored out & new pistons & rings fitted a few years ago
[18:33] <traeak> ahh gotcha
[18:33] <traeak> how many miles then?
[18:33] <IT_Sean> took it form 3.5L to 4L
[18:33] <traeak> hehe, not really rpi related :-p
[18:33] <IT_Sean> Origional miles? a bit over 200k
[18:33] <traeak> my honda is the same, bit over 200k
[18:33] <IT_Sean> Since the rebuild? I haven't the foggiest. I'd have to check.
[18:34] <traeak> the extent of my "rebuild" is new timing belt and water pump :-p
[18:34] <IT_Sean> The odo stopped working at about 190k, but, accoridng to my milage logging, it's a hair over 200k now.
[18:35] * atts (~asheehan@static-99-136-171-68.axsne.net) has left #raspberrypi
[18:35] <IT_Sean> I should get that fixed, but, it would mean being without the car for up to, or even over, a month. Since i'd have to send the cluster back to Germany to have the odo rebuilt.
[18:36] <traeak> ahh a trashy german car :-p
[18:36] <IT_Sean> 's not trashy!
[18:37] <IT_Sean> 's 25 years old, and thats the only mechanical failure it has ever suffered.
