[0:02] <SwK> anyone know of a board for the RPi that handles power regulation for back feeding it thru the GPIO header, has power buttons, and a RTC and is opensource on the design?

[0:08] <SirStan> i need hall effect sensors

[0:10] <narcos> Hey all. I just booted my pi, and got the config menu. I chose not to expand the partition to fill the card, and exited the menu. How can I get back to that menu, so I can resize it?
[0:11] * narcos finds raspi-config
[0:11] <SirStan> narcos: google://raspberry pi expand sd card partition
[0:12] <narcos> SirStan: /usr/bin/raspi-config :)

[0:23] <narcos> Odd that I can't bring my wlan0 down
[0:24] <narcos> ifconfig wlan0 down, but ifconfig still lists it
[0:26] * pksato (~PEBKAC@unaffiliated/pksato) has joined #raspberrypi
[0:26] <aeny> so... I'm trying to attach a Multitech modem to my pi... it apparently uses a TI serial chipset which requires firmware... so I've located and copied what I believe to be the correct file (ti_3410.fw) to /lib/firmware, but it's still complains "ti_download_firmware - firmware not found"
[0:28] <aeny> I'm trying to figure out what file it's expecting... using, for example, iwatch... but that doesn't show me what files were looked for...
[0:28] <aeny> any ideas what the next step should be?
[0:28] * IT_Sean (~IT_Sean@applefritter/IRCStaff/UltimateMacUser1) has joined #raspberrypi
[0:29] <pksato> get pid and vid and put on some web search

[0:32] <aeny> thanks, stan -- actually, I did find that post, and it seems to suggest what I've done already... namely, copy the firmware files into /lib/firmware -- and that's why I don't understand why the kernel is still complaining that it can't find the firmware
[0:33] * Cykey (~textual@modemcable119.94-162-184.mc.videotron.ca) has joined #raspberrypi
[0:33] <aeny> it makes me think that it's trying to find it someplace else, or under a different file name, or... ???
[0:34] <aeny> is there any way to monitor which files the kernel is looking for, as I plug in the device?
[0:34] <SirStan> Where di you copy the file?

[0:38] <pksato> it is a dialup modem? 56k
[0:39] <aeny> here's the relevant info: http://pastebin.com/gE5eBnQi
[0:39] <aeny> yep, dialup...

[3:39] <fr0g911> lol
[3:39] <Armand> Nearly as ugly as that SUV POS they make.
[3:39] <fr0g911> the cayman?

[3:40] <fr0g911> yea
[3:40] <fr0g911> its ugly
[3:40] <Armand> cayenne.
[3:40] <fr0g911> but man its so fast

[3:43] <fr0g911> port fordwarding error?
[3:43] <Armand> Most likely, if you're using the same user accout.
[3:43] <Armand> *account
[3:43] <a5m0> if i'm accessing it locally i don't know why that would be blocked, i've tried it nat'd to my laptop too and i can't get to the login page
[3:44] <a5m0> i'm wondering if apache is blocking it because it's connection refused, not inaccessible
[3:44] <a5m0> not apache, but the node server
[3:44] * home (~home@unaffiliated/home) Quit (Quit: Leaving)
[3:44] <fr0g911> your using the local lan ip address
[3:44] <a5m0> yes
[3:45] <a5m0> i can ssh in as well
[3:47] <fr0g911> so you can access shh from compus to your local box but not locally
[3:48] <a5m0> i have the pi with me, when it's on my home network i can get to my ide webpage just fine, when i take the pi with me on campus, even if i have it nat'd to my laptop i cannot acess the ide page, but i can ssh in all situations
[3:49] <a5m0> guess i'll just try the ide install again maybe it got corrupted some how
[3:50] <fr0g911> hmmm one sec let me think about this lol
[3:50] <Armand> Maybe the campus admin is a dick and blocks ports without good reason. :/
[3:50] <fr0g911> campus is pretty strick on ports
[3:50] <a5m0> Armand: "<a5m0> i'm wondering if apache is blocking it because it's connection refused, not inaccessible"
[3:50] <fr0g911> whats the default port your accessing
[3:50] <a5m0> 80
[3:50] <Armand> Well, you won't have modified the apache conf in transit.. ;)
[3:50] <fr0g911> port 80
[3:50] * des2 (~nobody@pool-71-190-40-16.nycmny.east.verizon.net) Quit (Ping timeout: 256 seconds)
[3:51] <Armand> nor the iptables.
[3:51] <Armand> My best guess is a network issue.
[3:51] <fr0g911> yeah same here
[3:51] <fr0g911> there is work arounds
[3:51] <Armand> nmap the rPi and see what ports are open.
[3:51] <a5m0> it doesn't work when i have it nat'd to my laptop and i can connect to it, so that's not the issue
[3:51] <a5m0> it's either permissions or a corrupted install, i'm reinstalling right now
[3:52] <fr0g911> i hardly thing corrupted install though
[3:52] <fr0g911> i would do what Armand said
[3:52] <fr0g911> check and see what ports are open
[3:53] <a5m0> i zenmap'd and 22 and 80 are open

[3:57] <a5m0> so it must have got corrupted when i powered it off earlire
[3:57] <fr0g911> awww lol
[3:57] <fr0g911> how did you power it off
[3:57] <a5m0> pulled power after doing sudo poweroff
[3:57] <a5m0> is there a way to password the ide?
[3:57] <a5m0> since this is accessible to everyone like this
[3:58] <fr0g911> i've been having around of corrupted sd cards because of users just unpluging it before it fully shutdown

[5:35] <SStrife> they produce more hashes
[5:35] <SStrife> not coins
[5:35] <SStrife> once the network is flooded with this extra hashing power, the difficulty will adjust for it
[5:36] <Viper-7> but the market is so keen on coins right now, it doesnt matter
[5:36] <SStrife> to maintain the coins/hour rate at whatever that's supposed to be
[5:36] <Dagger2> bitcoin adjusts the coin production rate to average, at the moment, 25 BTC per 10 minutes

[12:38] <steve_rox> i guess EA are using the frengi rules of acquisition

[12:42] <hellsing> no, just a big wallet
[12:42] <steve_rox> spose if they do they are blocked or something since they dont listen to their customers

[12:51] <hellsing> for EA it's a win-win, i sell a lot, and suddenly fire a dev group that don't do best selling games anymore...

[13:16] <Triffid_Hunter> tsn: because folks who make usb hubs are cheap and don't do the power stuff properly
[13:17] <Triffid_Hunter> tsn: if you have a rev2 pi with the mounting holes it should be fine. rev1 pi should have the polyfuses shorted else the pi will nuisance trip them

[13:27] <Triffid_Hunter> DenBeiren: not something I've tried though

[21:45] <IncognitoMan> yea....so im trying to either A.) make one or B.) find someone to make it for me
[21:45] <IncognitoMan> pretty simple case either way

[21:48] <IncognitoMan> well you should be able to get 3 if not 4 of them on there in a 1u size factor
[21:48] <IncognitoMan> still....nice to see someone finally make a rackmount case for one
[21:48] <ryanteck> some people were able to calculate it to be able to fit 6 at a low

[21:51] <ryanteck> the only awkward thing is its not a normal connectiom
[21:55] <IncognitoMan> hmm
[21:56] <IncognitoMan> ill have to take my rpi out of its case to double check and then i guess design a 1u case for it

[23:07] <iraytrace> can anybody say how much power drop I should expect across the board? I am delivering 5V at the power connector, but seeing 4.5 at tp1 and tp2.
[23:07] <Hexxeh> rsc: Raspberry Pi doesn't support OpenGL, only OpenGLES
[23:08] <double-you> iraytrace: do you have problems with 4.5 V?
[23:08] <double-you> I have 4.7 and everything is stable
[23:09] <iraytrace> I am seeing problems at 4.5 volts. Flaky operation.
[23:10] <iraytrace> I've replaced the power supply with a new one from Adafruit and am still seeing issues.

[23:11] <plugwash> Basically I see three possible causes
[23:11] <double-you> sorry, I bought one from the compability list and everything's ok
[23:11] <plugwash> 1: you have USB devices drawing too much power
[23:11] <plugwash> 2: the input polyswitch is faulty
[23:11] <plugwash> 3: some fault on the board is making the Pi draw more ower than it should
[23:12] * MarkDude (~MT@pdpc/supporter/student/markdude) Quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
[23:12] <double-you> 4: Your power supply is just too cheap and drops voltage
[23:13] <iraytrace> This was my expectation. I have no USB devices plugged in. Just the HDMI output.
[23:13] <iraytrace> I was wondering how much drop other folks see across the board. That is: What is recieved on the connector vs. what shows up at tp1/2
[23:13] * mherweg (~mherweg@ip-88-152-119-0.unitymediagroup.de) Quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
[23:14] <double-you> my 2.5A power supply delivers 4.7V
[23:14] <plugwash> double-you, if the power supply was dropping voltage he wouldn't have 5V at the power connector
[23:15] <plugwash> at least not when it was connected to a Pi
[23:16] <double-you> that's the point. you can't know the on-load voltage drop
[23:16] <iraytrace> I've got fine tips on my multi-meter. I can hit the surface mount pads on the board beside the power connector. 5v there.
[23:16] <yggdrasil> hey guys whats the eta on a raspberry pi these days ?
[23:16] <iraytrace> Half a volt seemed... high to me.
[23:18] <plugwash> I'd disconnect the HDMI too to be sure (HDMI devices can draw power)
[23:18] <plugwash> and it it's still dropping half a volt with all perhipherals disconnected then RMA it
[23:18] <iraytrace> Did that. Same value with or without the HDMI.

[23:28] <plugwash> labelled F3
[23:28] <iraytrace> R51 or F3?
[23:29] <plugwash> F3 is the polyswitch
[23:29] <yggdrasil> plugwash: whats thier story with rma ?
