[18:18] <shiftplusone> TheSov, the pi's ethernet chip is hanging off the usb, which is designed for mobile phones and has its limitations. Not only does it affect the speed when you have a lot of IO and network load, but it can also crash the kernel under those conditions. That's the worst case scenario though. There are workarounds and the software is constantly getting better, but if you're expecting it to perform
[18:18] <shiftplusone> well as a NAS, you may be disappointed. But again, that depends on what your expectations are exactly.

[18:31] <Alfihar> arcanescu: should just need to "import RPi.GPIO as GPIO" then "GPIO.setmode(GPIO.BOARD)", you then setup the pin for example "GPIO.setup(16, GPIO.IN)", then you can check if it's pressed with "if GPIO.input(16) == True:"

[21:09] <Banish> is it micro usb?
[21:10] <Encrypt> Ya
[21:10] <IT_Sean> I can confirm that an apple branded iPad charger (the iPad chargers are different to the iPod / iPhone chargers, fyi) will work, as will the charger for a Nexus 4.
[21:10] * rideh (~rideh@unaffiliated/rideh) Quit (Quit: rideh)
[21:11] <IT_Sean> Many others are also fine. Those are just the only two that i have that work.
[21:11] <Encrypt> Banish, Whenever you'd use USB keys, auto-powered hard drives... you'd better buy a powered USB Hub
[21:11] <Banish> should i get a cord with a 230v plug in one side och an adaptor from usb?
[21:11] <IT_Sean> wha?
[21:11] <Encrypt> Then you can both use it to power your pi and to plug USB stuff
[21:11] <Banish> im gonna use it as an server, so i dont really need keyboard etc
[21:11] <Banish> gonna use ssh
[21:12] <johnc-> my ir sensors work!! YAY!!
[21:13] <Encrypt> Banish, Hum... server you said?
[21:13] <Encrypt> Banish, I'm using mine the same way
[21:13] <IT_Sean> What you do need is a better power supply. That chinese pile of crap is not doing you any favors, by the sound of things.
[21:13] <Encrypt> Banish, Then you'd probably like to add an external hard drive?
[21:13] <Banish> nah, im just messing around with it
[21:13] <Banish> to learn some linux
[21:13] <Banish> gonna install apache
[21:13] <Banish> and just host some shit

[21:14] <Banish> that i will setup with the pi :P
[21:15] <Banish> should i look for 5V 1A power supply?
[21:15] <Encrypt> Banish, Apache... not a good idea
[21:15] <Encrypt> Banish, You'd better use Nginx : lighter, faster ;)
[21:15] <IT_Sean> Banish: you want 5v and at least 1A
[21:15] <Banish> ok, thanks guys :)

[21:27] <IT_Sean> o_O
[21:27] <IT_Sean> Sure it's not the power LED?
[21:27] <Encrypt> I would have thought the opposite... (O.o)
[21:27] <Banish> the orange one
[21:27] <johnc-> looks like the GPIO is missing the pins I'd need to run in a micrphone
[21:27] <IT_Sean> weeeeeeeeird
[21:27] <johnc-> usb it is then
[21:27] <Banish> is the hdmi supplying power?
[21:28] <IT_Sean> it SHOULDN'T be, but, it's pastable.

[21:36] <Banish> accoring to some random page

[21:36] <megaproxy> plz halp
