[10:42] <evil_dan2wik> no

[10:43] <retrosenator> if the distance is only a few inches it should work
[10:43] <evil_dan2wik> you are talking about the ethernet cable right?
[10:44] <retrosenator> yeah
[10:44] <evil_dan2wik> The ethernet connector has some small transformers in the back of it.
[10:44] <retrosenator> inside the connector?
[10:44] <evil_dan2wik> without them, it doesn't work.
[10:44] <evil_dan2wik> Inside the socket on the Pi
[10:44] <retrosenator> hmm
[10:45] <ShorTie> i would try to un-solder the eithernet connector, but you could just tack on the 4 wires you need for eithernet on the bottom
[10:45] <ShorTie> wouldn't*
[10:45] <kichuku> How can I stream mp4 movie video from raspbian to ipad?
[10:46] <retrosenator> so I think tightvnc won't work of course.. but I get hardware acceleration when I use x11vnc because it uses a real display
[10:47] <retrosenator> since cubie truck is headless it's still going wifi to the chrombook which has no ethernet..
[10:47] <retrosenator> but the cubie truck has mode n wifi going 65mbits
[10:47] <evil_dan2wik> ShorTie, you can't do that because you bypass the coils.

[10:53] <evil_dan2wik> kichuku, VLC will run from command line if it has to or you force it to.
[10:53] <ppq> kichuku, DLNA is an extension for UPNP. you can specify a directory to be shared. clients will have access to this directory and download the files to play them

[10:57] <kichuku> Is there any blog post explaining how to run vlc via command line? I am not able to find a good one via googling. Also when I use "stream" option from my vlc in windows 7 , the video frames skip in the middle. However it is smooth using "vlc streamer helper" . Will I face the same problem when I stream from my pi?
[10:57] <evil_dan2wik> 640x400
[10:57] <ppq> kichuku, DLNA servers do not need much cpu power. they even work on cheap plastic routers. so it's a good idea on the pi. i don't know how things are with VLC, though

[12:16] <evil_dan2wik> [Saint], I think his router has a built in file server.

[12:16] <[Saint]> That shouldn't make a difference.

[13:28] <SgrA> Oh yeah, it's on, not flashing.
[13:28] <retrosenator> SgrA: do you have another sd card?
[13:29] <retrosenator> I get the no medium found if I am using sd to micro sd adapter with no microsd
[13:30] <SgrA> I've been using microSD through an adapter for more than a year. Yesterday, I was trying to connect some high current devices and had some problems with them, so I suspect the sd card is corrupt.
[13:31] <retrosenator> can you format it?

[13:32] <SgrA> My computer detects the sdcard as sdb and sdc, no sdbX or sdcY.

[13:48] <shiftplusone> I don't know about glxinfo, but glxgears uses opengl rather than opengl es. So if you manage to get it running using something like mesa's libs, it will be terribly slow.
[13:49] <shiftplusone> but there are also opengl -> opengl es conversion libraries, which should work for glxgears.
[13:49] <retrosenator> I know about those quite well since I fixed bugs in glshim

[14:26] <retrosenator> so that I can get opencpn running on the raspberry pi with hardware acceleration
[14:26] <retrosenator> and I have no display
[14:27] <shiftplusone> it uses opengl?
[14:27] <retrosenator> but if I can make it work, plenty of other people can use it.. but I likely must hack the source
[14:27] <retrosenator> it can use opengl, and works best with it
[14:27] <shiftplusone> no opengl es backend?
[14:28] <retrosenator> opengl es is provided via glshim at the moment

[17:51] <Poison[BLX]> komunista: ah, well, in that case, the real issue is that, since there aren't any modules for the kernel you're running, and none of the data about what's built in, etc, is listed for the system, depmod doesn't know what to do, hangs around a bit, then fails.

[17:54] <mortal> I got raspberry pi stable @ 1100 MHz

[17:54] <mortal> and stress script does not show any errors
[17:55] * Macuser (~textual@unaffiliated/macuser) Quit (Quit: My MacBook Pro has gone to sleep. ZZZzzz…)
[17:58] <Poison[BLX]> komunista: the 'short' fix to silence the error: mkdir -p /lib/modules/`uname -r`/ && touch /lib/modules/`uname -r`/modules.{order,builtin} ; depmod -a ... and I suspect the reason for the different kernel is just a lack of the virtualized hardware drivers in the raspbian kernel, unless the raspbian kernel's built to use more hardware features of the pi than qemu can cope with (hardware random generator, etc)... to track that down, I'd recommend
[17:58] <BCMM> komunista: i'm not sure whether or not there are issues with the drivers included the kernel, but the kernel binary itself is in a weird format on the Pi
[17:58] <BCMM> (and not in the format that qemu, grub and so on understand)
[17:59] <Poison[BLX]> ah, well, that'd definitely do it. That one I didn't know :)
[18:00] <komunista> Poison[BLX]: thanks, I will try it now
[18:02] <Poison[BLX]> komunista: that short fix just fakes out depmod with blank listings and makes it generate the rest of its info on aliases, dependencies, etc from that for the current kernel version ;)
[18:03] <komunista> I need backup the image (to make sure) first and it takes some time ...
[18:03] <Poison[BLX]> it's lying to it, since there's an awful lot more than nothing built into the kernel, but since nothing's being dynamically loaded anyhow, that doesn't matter :)
[18:03] <komunista> after this I will see the result :-)
[18:03] <komunista> yes, nothing missing is needed...
[18:04] <Poison[BLX]> and good plan on the backup, I've only tested that one in a qemu-arm-static chroot I have sitting here that claims to be a 2.6.something kernel :)
[18:07] <komunista> I am using this qemu stuff mostly for compiling & testing new things into real raspberry. It is slow as hell (new nginx dabian package taked 4 hours to build), but real raspberry is used as server, then I don't want to load it more as is needed
[18:09] <Poison[BLX]> I've found qemu-user to be a little faster than a full fledged qemu for building, but that's mostly because I'm toying with gentoo and using this approach lets me build things in parallel, making up for slow emulation with multiple cores

[22:17] <l_r> will it support two camera modules?
[22:18] <x29a> l_r: how do you figure that less available space will support more cameras? but actually, i dont knpw

[23:07] <clever> and maybe something you can use to test things out before you mass-produce your own board
[23:08] <gordonDrogon> indeed.
[23:08] <clever> gordonDrogon: how hard do you think it would be to get a ipod nano 6th gen display to work?
[23:08] <clever> its DSI based
[23:09] <gordonDrogon> I've really no idea about that side of things, but I was led to believe that with the new display board, then any compatible board would work - but who knows what compatible is.
[23:09] <clever> just configure the width/height/fps and maybe the porch settings?

[23:09] <clever> nope
[23:10] <clever> it would also require an adapter that can route the data lanes to the right pins
[23:10] <clever> nice
[23:10] <clever> bit large though?
[23:10] <clever> whats it doing that needs that much room?
[23:11] <gordonDrogon> I've no idea!
[23:12] <clever> let me grab a link
[23:12] <clever> www.electricstuff.co.uk/nanohack.html
[23:12] <clever> he is making an FPGA interface to drive ipod nano displays
[23:13] <clever> and has made docs on how to interface with it
[23:13] <gordonDrogon> someone else with a lot of time on their hands :)
[23:13] <clever> yep
[23:13] <clever> i'm not sure what his project is, but he needs to drive dozens and dozens of them
[23:14] <gordonDrogon> wow...

[23:15] <clever> covered in them
[23:15] <gordonDrogon> weird! but I guess he has a reason.
[23:16] <clever> he has done that flying xbox ad before
[23:16] <clever> the giant HALO logo in the sky
[23:16] <clever> he made a youtube video on how to make a wiring jig for the harness
[23:16] <clever> but at the time, the project was secret
[23:17] <clever> so he didnt say what it was for
[23:17] <clever> all you saw was a big spool of wire with plugs everywhere
[23:17] <clever> and how to cut every wire to length every time
[23:17] <gordonDrogon> maybe we'll find out one day!
[23:19] <gordonDrogon> zed time here though
