[10:26] <debichu> is my Pi 2 broken? red+green led's are on when i plug in power but green led never flashes, so it doesn't reach the bootcode. i've tried with different powersupply and usb cable, and different microsd card

[10:27] <CoJaBo> pi2 won't boot with old firmware, for one

[10:27] <debichu> well, i can see the correct files in Windows when using tha diskimager tool
[10:27] <debichu> that*
[10:27] <ShorTie> kernel7 ??
[10:28] <debichu> err, bootcode.bin, fix something, etc
[10:29] <Smither> do you have an older pi? or is this your only one?
[10:29] <debichu> i have 3 older ones,
[10:29] <Smither> try it in an older one, does it work?
[10:29] <ShorTie> shouldn't need no diskimager tool, regular file manager should see them
[10:29] <debichu> already did, raspbian boots fine

[10:31] <debichu> as i said, the pi2 won't even boot
[10:31] <Smither> no it won't you'll have to upgrade and dist-upgrade from your old one
[10:31] <Smither> then move the sd card across
[10:32] <debichu> right, that process makes no sense :)

[10:33] <Smither> well the old raspbian doesn't work on the new pi2 (compatability errors to do with the RAM I believe). so you need to upadte it to the new raspbian. the only way to do that without losing all your data is to upgrade it from an old pi. Alternatively you could just reflash it with the new raspbian download but then you'd lose everything
[10:34] <ShorTie> yes it does, you need firnware/bootloader/kernel that know what a rpi2 is, you trying to use a 'land before the rpi2' other wize
[10:35] <Xark> Myrtti: Very cool. :) I believe I saw your flower project recently too (nice work also).

[10:37] <debichu> well, tbh i only tried with raspbian as a safe solution. i was running openelec off it for a few weeks. but the other day, when i switched to the hdmi for the pi on my tv, i just had a black screen. then i tried everything i wrote before. still no luck, openelec (tried older versions that i know worked) or raspbian
[10:38] <Xark> Myrtti: I have a few sewable Neopixels and a SquareWare, but I am not confident on my sewing skills (for a jean jacket accent or something). Need to "just do it". :)

[13:21] <fno> it's faster? let me have a try
[13:21] <Xark> I find epiphany crashes too easily (e.g., on RPi home page). However, on RPi2, IceWeasel works nicely (much faster than chromium).
[13:21] <leio> on raspbian it's been optimized in various ways for RPi usage
[13:22] <leio> (and webkit-gtk)
[13:22] <leio> RPi2 is probably a whole different story I guess; could make use of neon for JS JIT, but raspbian builds probably wouldn't
[13:23] <leio> and a stock armv7 distro that would make use of them, doesn't have those optimizations as found on raspbian
[13:23] <Xark> Right. Just saying my experiences with RPi2. It may well be the best be on RPi1. :)

[20:33] <plugwash> The C1 has a higher clockspeed than the pi2 but has cores that get less work done per clock cycle, overall the CPU is probablly slightly faster in most applications. GPUs are totally different, no idea which one is "Better". Last I heard the software situation was a lot less mature on the C1 than the Pi2 though I expect that will have improved a bit now it's been out while.
[20:33] <ali1234> on board IR is also interesting but it costs about 10p to add this to a raspberry pi, it's literally one component
[20:33] <gschanuel> it's a tsop 4838 (http://uk.farnell.com/vishay/tsop4838/ir-receiver-38khz/dp/4913190) pin 1 -> gpio 12. pin 2 -> gpio 6; pin3 -> gpio 1
[20:33] <Bilby> I was seriously considering the Odriod until the Pi 2 came out. Now the only odroid i might go for would be the one that's above the Pi significantly
[20:33] <Chillum> I am running a headless cluster so the GPUs are a bit wasted for me

[20:34] <plugwash> The C1 has OTG, an infra red reciver and a socket for an EMMC module while the Pi has CSI camera and DSI display connectors
[20:34] <nimtz> anyone using a pi2? is it "smooth" with chrome
[20:34] <Chillum> plus they are attached

[20:35] <Chillum> the raspi GPU is essentially a video decoder. It sure would be nice if I could hash with it
[20:35] <Bilby> support is really the defining difference for me. Odriod support is building but it's not even cloes to what the Pi has
[20:35] <Chillum> I doubt it will ever have cuda support
[20:36] <ali1234> cuda is an nvidia api
[20:36] <Chillum> any sort of general computation from the GPU would be nice

[20:39] <Chillum> interesting
[20:39] <Chillum> plugwash: pretty hard to get a Pi 2 for the headline price also. A few places have them near $35 but a lot of places are charging > $50 and selling fast

[23:40] <Opinie> how about you just type in && sudo kill omxplayer after the command you use to play your videos on omxplayer? :P
[23:40] <toeshred> q does work as long as i press it before the video ends, and it becomes unresponsive.

[23:40] <toeshred> is there an alternative to omxplayer for raspberry pi? i wish mpv works as well.
[23:41] <Xark> toeshred: Interesting. I have not had that issue. Seems to exit nicely (I guess it may depend on content).

[23:41] <Opinie> but you could try the kill suggestion I outlined earlier
[23:41] <toeshred> this is on arch arm, not raspbian, so maybe it has something to do with that.
[23:41] <Opinie> oh
[23:42] <Opinie> yeah, I'm going to shut up, if we're talking about arch

[23:44] <Opinie> yeah, sorry, I don't know anything about arch, so you're kind of on your own there, all I can say is I haven't had the problems you describe on raspbian
[23:44] <toeshred> i may have to switch to raspbian just to see if this gets fixed. make a dd backup of my sd card first to switch back if needed.
