[2:42] <stormysea> Yeah, I don't want a device where I have to download images
[2:42] <fred1807> I am playing with raspidmx's pngview, to render png images on screen... and I notice that I cannot open more than 2 or 3 images... when I do it, my TVservice stops, util I kill the pngview process... What is happening? My GPU mem is already 196, should I incrase more?
[2:42] <stormysea> I don't trust them. paranoid maybe but you can't be too safe
[2:43] <stormysea> I really hope the next pi has USB 3, maybe I'll just wait for the next one. the pi seems a lot better than the other SACs

[14:43] <ktwo> Axy, you need a vnc server then
[14:43] <Axy> i've installed tightvnc and x11nvc ktwo
[14:43] <Axy> I can also ssh to my device
[14:43] <ktwo> yea thats enough usually, so you need a vnc client on the ipad
[14:44] <Axy> when I run tightvncserver:1 it starts a vnc but I don't see my mouse movements and keyboard keypresses
[14:44] <ktwo> (i'm not an apple user so i dont know, but one should be available)
[14:44] <Axy> so I believe it's like creating another desktop instance?
[14:44] <ktwo> yea, because thats not the x11 instance, you start it via the raspbian menu
[14:44] <Axy> my raspberry is set to autostart the raspbian through the config
[14:44] <Axy> I want to see that particular instance
[14:46] <ktwo> as said start x11vnc via the menu, this will let you vnc into the "real" display sessiono
[14:46] <ktwo> and to make it autostart probably you have to just add the command to autorun

[15:10] <at0m> Axy: sometimes you can run desktop commands blindly. if x11vnc is configured, "Alt-F2 x11vnc Enter"
[15:10] <at0m> that'll start it. not sure if it'll suggest options to fill out first, before it starts the server
[15:11] <at0m> you could ssh in and create a script that has all the options on command line, then launch that script using Alt-F2

[15:15] <mrkillius24> First of all is it easy to do? And would it be faster than the regular ethernet port?
[15:15] <IT_Sean> On the Pi? Unlikely.
[15:15] <at0m> both are limited by usb2 speed, since pi's eth0 sits on usb bus
[15:15] <IT_Sean> Remember, on the Pi, the ethernet port IS a USB device already.
[15:16] <Axy> at0m, what do I do with the config file?
[15:19] <at0m> Axy: you fill out the options as listed in man x11vnc, so x11vnc runs pre-configured. here's my rc: https://pastee.org/njbh2
[15:19] <at0m> i ran plain x11vnc with that and it offers vnc without further questions
[15:22] * danieli (~danieli@unaffiliated/danieli) has joined #raspberrypi
[15:22] <at0m> mrkillius24: i'd guess that would work, though Pi's kernel is pretty special (since it's SoC). Not sure the usb network would be as efficient as the eth0 network, since eth0 has a dedi chip
[15:23] <mrkillius24> at0m, What does that dedicated chip help do on the eth0?
[15:23] <mrkillius24> Also would it be possible to power and use ethernet on the same port
[15:24] <mrkillius24> because I need a setup where I have the least amount of cables as possible
[15:24] <at0m> mrkillius24: an eth0 port has a controller, offloading the work from the cpu. usb is... dumb, generic
[15:25] <at0m> so the cpu might need to handle that chip's job
[15:25] <mrkillius24> at0m, So eth0 is more power efficient and doesn't waste the cpu?
[15:25] <at0m> not saying power efficient, cpu efficient
[15:26] <mrkillius24> I see
[15:26] <mrkillius24> Not wasting extra cycles
[15:26] <at0m> right

[15:46] <jubalh> so i wondered: does it bring better performance if i buy 3 rpi2 and build an "cluster"?

[15:49] <at0m> you can do that on one pi

[15:52] <mrkillius24> no arm build for suse on the pi
[15:52] <mrkillius24> What do you need from suse?
[15:52] <jubalh> mrkillius24: well there is one, i am sure
[15:52] <jubalh> mrkillius24: i use opensuse on my normal computers and would also like to have it on the rpi because of that
[15:52] <nid0> there is a pi build of opensuse
[15:53] <mrkillius24> Since when?
[15:53] <jubalh> https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:ARM
[15:53] <jubalh> i hope to find someone who uses it, because its a difference between existing and being usable :)
