[2:12] <Bioniclegenius> Hallo
[2:12] <Bioniclegenius> Hey, question if anybody happens to know - is there a way to set up the Raspberry Pi to stream video FROM it? I've been googling around, and I can't find any sort of solution.
[2:12] <Bioniclegenius> I've got RetroPie set up on my Pi machine, and I'm wanting to stream it as I play it.
[2:12] * cybr1d (~cybr1d@unaffiliated/cybr1d) Quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
[2:13] <HtheB> vlc?
[2:13] <Bioniclegenius> the only stuff I'm finding is either streaming from a camera on the pi, or streaming from a pc to the pi
[2:13] * Bray9082_ (~Bray90820@2604:2d80:800a:820f:b5ac:592d:36fd:f97f) Quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds)
[2:13] * mythos (~mythos@unaffiliated/mythos) Quit (Ping timeout: 260 seconds)
[2:13] <HtheB> you should try out ffmpeg or vlc
[2:13] * cybr1d (~cybr1d@unaffiliated/cybr1d) has joined #raspberrypi
[2:13] <Bioniclegenius> hm.
[2:13] <JK-47> vlc or this. http://blog.schmitt.io/entries/netcatwebcamstreaming/
[2:13] <Bioniclegenius> How much configuration would vlc require?
[2:14] * rxc (~Ryan@unaffiliated/rylinaux) Quit (Ping timeout: 272 seconds)
[2:14] <HtheB> http://www.howtogeek.com/120202/how-to-record-your-desktop-to-a-file-or-stream-it-over-the-internet-with-vlc/
[2:14] <Bioniclegenius> ah, thanks
[2:15] <HtheB> this is ofcourse made for windows, but it should also be possible for the pi
[2:15] <HtheB> correct me if I'm wrong guys
[2:15] * rxc (~Ryan@unaffiliated/rylinaux) has joined #raspberrypi
[2:15] * DMackey (~n2dvm@cpe-67-246-122-255.twcny.res.rr.com) has joined #raspberrypi
[2:15] <JK-47> the menus are the same no matter the os with vlc
[2:15] <HtheB> JK-47: yes, but if it will work on the pi or not
[2:16] <HtheB> does anyone has any advice for VPN?
[2:17] <Bioniclegenius> hm. I'm seeming to have issues trying to run sudo apt-get update.
[2:17] <Bioniclegenius> It can't find three of the four mirrors.
[2:17] <Bioniclegenius> wait, no, I think it finds none of them
[2:17] <Bioniclegenius> odd. I'm on the internet, and connected...
[2:18] <Bioniclegenius> ah, never mind. Not on the internet.
[2:18] <Berg> are you on lan or internet
[2:18] * Kaboon (~Kaboon@524A74DE.cm-4-3b.dynamic.ziggo.nl) Quit (Ping timeout: 268 seconds)
[2:18] <Berg> check cables
[2:19] <Bioniclegenius> using wifi, and checking that
[2:19] <Bioniclegenius> it seems to have not been connected, and has lost the password or something.
[2:19] <Berg> low power will drop wifi
[2:19] * linkedinyou (~linkediny@unaffiliated/linkedinyou) has joined #raspberrypi
[2:20] <Bioniclegenius> there we go, connected now.
[2:20] <Bioniclegenius> ah-ha, now sudo apt-get update is working. Much better.

[8:19] <tjcarter> The wheezy NOOBS installer ... INSTALLED JESSIE.
[8:19] * zenguy_pc (~oracle__@ool-3f8fe8e1.dyn.optonline.net) Quit (Ping timeout: 250 seconds)
[8:19] * tjcarter takes a deep breath before resuming screaming obscenities
[8:20] * ShorTie thinkz, scrub NOOBS and just use a old wheezy image
[8:21] * AbouEmre (~Thunderbi@196.216.8.140) has joined #raspberrypi
[8:22] <tjcarter> ShorTie: It's Raspple II which comes as a NOOBS OS package.
[8:22] <ShorTie> NooBS ain't no os
[8:23] * Vyom2 (~Vyom@unaffiliated/vy0m) has joined #raspberrypi
[8:23] * fredp2 is now known as fredp2-away
[8:24] <tjcarter> the instructions for building this thing start with 1. download my bash history on a freshly installed NOOBS/wheezy setup, 2. run these commands.
[8:24] <ShorTie> and you do not need it
[8:24] <tjcarter> I do if I am trying to reproduce someone else's steps before changing them
[8:25] <ShorTie> na
[8:25] <tjcarter> Personally I kinda hate NOOBS, but when running someone else's commands verbatim to verify that you get the same output they do, you need the same environment
[8:26] <tjcarter> If that works, THEN I can start changing stuff.
[8:26] * Vyom (~Vyom@unaffiliated/vy0m) Quit (Ping timeout: 250 seconds)
[8:26] <ShorTie> bash history has nothing to do with noobs
[8:26] <ShorTie> i've like never used it
[8:27] <tjcarter> Do you know what Raspple II is?
[8:27] <ShorTie> nop, got a link maybe ??
[8:27] <tjcarter> http://appleii.ivanx.com/rasppleii/
[8:28] <tjcarter> It's a zipball containing NOOBS and a customized Raspbian wheezy
[8:28] <tjcarter> The customizations break with systemd because systemd.
[8:29] <tjcarter> Before I can fix that, I need to be able to reproduce the NOOBS-based setup IvanX built.
[8:30] <ShorTie> noobs does nothing but download a os image and sets it up in a partition
[8:30] <tjcarter> He didn't do this any sort of scripted/planned/intelligent way. It's a bash history file you run from a freshly Raspbian wheezy, made by NOOBS.
[8:30] <tjcarter> It depends on the NOOBS partition layout, the NOOBS files being there, etc.
[8:30] <ShorTie> ya, so
[8:30] * duckpuppy (~patrickai@50.96.70.44) has joined #raspberrypi
[8:30] <tjcarter> It does this because it builds a NOOBS OS.
[8:30] <ShorTie> not if it is a bash history
[8:31] <tjcarter> http://appleii.ivanx.com/rasppleii/history-setup.txt
[8:32] * zenguy_pc (~oracle__@ool-3f8fe8e1.dyn.optonline.net) has joined #raspberrypi
[8:32] <tjcarter> which actually downloads ivanx.com/rasppleii/bash_history-rasppleii.txt
[8:32] <tjcarter> you then run those commands in order

[8:37] <ShorTie> ya, that thing is a maze of muck
[8:37] <tjcarter> I think the major thing I need from this jessie installation is the fstab. The rest I think I can unpack from a NOOBSless image. I think. I don't know.
[8:38] <tjcarter> Hence the need to verify that these things will produce a .tgz that's basically the same as the released February 2015 wheezy image.
[8:38] <tjcarter> Doesn't matter if it's byte for byte the same, it just needs to be clearly close enough that I can see that it worked.
[8:39] <tjcarter> If I can produce that, then I can produce a last-wheezy-version made the same way, which gives me something I can begin to fix.
[8:40] <ShorTie> 1st i'd break that thing up into single 1 line commands
[8:40] <ShorTie> hafe of it is just useless in away
[8:40] <tjcarter> Sure--but the first thing I need to do is to have a system those commands run on.
[8:40] * codestorm (~codestorm@cpe-75-83-205-183.socal.res.rr.com) Quit (Ping timeout: 252 seconds)
[8:42] <tjcarter> As I said, I think the NOOBSless image just needs its partitions changed and it should otherwise be able to be dumped right on top of what I have now.
[8:42] <tjcarter> well, the root partition anyway.
[8:43] <tjcarter> I may need to resize the FS by hand.
[8:43] <ShorTie> think your cornfused about what noobs is and does
[8:44] <ShorTie> the linux commands in that thing will work on any image
[8:46] <tjcarter> The linux commands in that thing don't work on an image, they work on the current filesystem.
[8:46] * dreamon__ (~dreamon@unaffiliated/dreamon) Quit (Ping timeout: 250 seconds)
[8:47] <tjcarter> And a NOOBS-installed raspbian is not the same as a dd-installed raspbian. Else the forum wouldn't be full of people asking how to remove NOOBS and being told "just reinstall".
[8:47] <ShorTie> yes it is the same image
[8:48] <tjcarter> I know at least that fstab is not even remotely the same and the partition layout is very different.
[8:49] <tjcarter> So what I need to do is drop a wheezy filesystem over what NOOBS kindly installed and replace the fstab, at the very least.
[8:50] <tjcarter> That should (I hope) give me my baseline.
[8:50] <ShorTie> really don't think fstab needs messed with

[10:49] <linuxmint> Xark: I couldn't find a Micro-USB power adapter, so I bought one of the round end bit thingys.
[10:49] <ShorTie> pi is powered by standard micro-usb pin out
[10:49] <linuxmint> What's the round bit for?
[10:49] <Xark> linuxmint: That is headphone/video out...
[10:50] <linuxmint> Xark: oh no, I bought the wrong one then. Seems hard to buy a 5V 3A micro USB.
[10:50] <Xark> 2A is pretty easy, 3A is a bit harder...
[10:50] <Xark> This one works for me http://www.amazon.com/Onite-Charger-Travel-Adapter-Tablet/dp/B00KQH2VRW
[10:51] <Xark> (with external HDD and no hub too)
[10:51] <linuxmint> Xark: yes, I find 2A, but as I use 4 USB ports, I'm supposed to use 2.5A
[10:51] <Xark> linuxmint: Or just get a powered hub and 2A.
[10:52] <linuxmint> yes, plenty of 2A, hope it's enought for 4 USB ports.
[10:52] <linuxmint> Raspberry Pi 2 recommends 2.5A for 4 USB ports.
[10:52] <ShorTie> pi will tell you if it is not
[10:53] <ShorTie> you need the usb power hack too...

[13:03] <Nepho> Hey! Several weeks ago I installed MediaWiki on my raspi (Raspbian Wheezy) using this tutorial (http://trevorappleton.blogspot.fr/2013/04/installing-mediawiki-on-raspberry-pi.html) and it worked instantly and perfectly fine. I upgraded my Raspbian to Jessie, tried to install MediaWiki again, but now after the installation all I get is a 404 on my http://localhost/mediawiki. Anyone know what could cause this? Thanks in advance :)
[13:04] <Nepho> One thing to note though, is that when I go to http://localhost, I get on Apache2 Debian Default Page

[13:42] <xenkey> hi
[13:42] <xenkey> I've hooked a bluetooth headset to my pi and am wondering if it would be possible to play any sound the headset hears via the headphone jack

[13:45] <ppq> usually not
[13:45] <ppq> (if i got you right)
[13:46] <xenkey> usually?
[13:47] <xenkey> i seem to recall being able to do this somehow

[13:47] <ppq> you want to use the wired connection of your bluetooth headset as output instead of input? then: usually that's not possible
[13:48] <ppq> if you want to mirror the bluetooth audio output of your pi to the 3.5 mm jack of your pi: that works. somehow.
[13:49] <xenkey> there's no wired connection in my bluetooth headset

[13:53] <xenkey> I should probably tell you what the overall goal is
[13:53] <xenkey> I'm using a bluetooth headset as a mic that connects to a pi and plays its sound through the audio jack, this is wired to a walkie talkie. on the other end is a laptop which receives the sound and streams it to a second bluetooth headset

[13:56] <ppq> didn't read it but this sentence sounds promising: I'm new on this forum and I would like to share a little project I made to stream audio content from a bluetooth source (a phone for example) to the raspberry jack output.

[18:25] <JakeSays> ali1234: it is in the sense that you could find a library instead of dinking around with whatever you're doing
[18:25] <ali1234> the libraries require a kernel driver
[18:26] <myself> modprobe installs it for you..
[18:26] <JakeSays> ^
[18:26] <ali1234> you guys have no idea do you?
[18:26] <ali1234> i2c-gpio requires a configuration to tell it which gpios to use
[18:26] <myself> https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruits-raspberry-pi-lesson-4-gpio-setup/configuring-i2c
[18:26] <ali1234> it is a software bitbanging driver
[18:26] <ali1234> if you simply modprobe it, it will do nothing
[18:27] <JakeSays> ali1234: ok but you know we read things that tell us how to do it specifically for the raspi
[18:27] <JakeSays> instead of reading generic kernel documentation

[18:29] <ali1234> that link tells how to use the broadcom hardware i2c
[18:29] <ali1234> i want to use i2c-gpio which is a software implementation
[18:29] <ali1234> i want to do this because the broadcom hardware is broken
[18:31] <JakeSays> its broken? then noone must be using it
[18:32] <ali1234> does not support clock stretching, does no support I2C_M_NOSTART
[18:32] <ali1234> = cannot be used with a wide range of i2c slaves

[21:15] <JakeSays> excellent.
[21:16] <JakeSays> i tried them in rc.local and things went bad quickly, but i just discovered the text i pasted had windows line endings.. i'm sure that didnt help
[21:16] <divx118> Yep, that doesn't help :)
[21:17] <divx118> BTW rc.local is used for running scripts at boot.
[21:17] <JakeSays> right
[21:18] <JakeSays> so any env. var set there wouldn't persist?
