[4:26] <sir_galahad_ad> because it definitely seems like a networking fail some where. a reassigned ip would've done it.

[4:32] <sir_galahad_ad> but really reading the logs is the best thing to do
[4:32] <sir_galahad_ad> but if it is serving http errors and nothing else it could be because it generates the error pages from the running software, but storage look up fails

[10:31] <Metalsutton> sort of a programming/botting question
[10:33] <Lonefish> Tbh I have no clue what you mean
[10:34] <Metalsutton> Basicaly, i SUCK at managing my money. And would like to plot out the money in my bank accounts at the end of each day. and have a graph plot the changes without my input/ basicaly always viewing a 2 month history
[10:35] <Metalsutton> the issue is it would need to log into my account with my details at a specific time every day. I am not sure how bank secuirty goes, but they might think something is up

[10:38] <Lonefish> I think you're best off contacting your back
[10:38] <Lonefish> *bank
[10:38] <Metalsutton> i can get transaction logs like csvs and osx files etc, but yeah, you have to log in first.
[10:39] <Lonefish> Login is usually with a seperate card reader in belgium
[10:39] <Lonefish> We have to get a code from the site, put it in the card reader, enter pin, then it spits out another code and we enter that one on the site
[10:39] <Lonefish> pretty impossible to automate
[10:40] <Habbie> sometimes the mobile apps have easier access
[10:40] <Lonefish> true, but you loose the control you have of a computer
[10:42] <Metalsutton> ive switched banks recently. its a bit off
[10:42] <Metalsutton> odd

[10:43] <Lonefish> I'd just ask my bank if they maybe have an api, but I wouldn't put my hopes up

[14:16] <gordonDrogon> a-ha :)
[14:16] <Sonny_Jim> Would it be possible to modify the wiringpi lib so I can transfer a 16 bit mask for setting the outputs
[14:17] * speeddragon (~speeddrag@193.137.28.200) has joined #raspberrypi
[14:17] <Sonny_Jim> All purely in the essence of speed ;)
[14:17] <gordonDrogon> I think the best you can do is output 8-bits at a time.
[14:17] <Sonny_Jim> At the moment I'm calling the mcp write command 16 times in a loop
[14:17] <gordonDrogon> you need to get the internal 'fd' and you get that by ... (give me a moment & I'll look it up)
[14:17] <Sonny_Jim> tbh I wouldn't have thought the difference would be incredible, between a 16 bit loop and writing 2 x 8bits
[14:18] <gordonDrogon> you need a: struct wiringPiNodeStruct *myDev ;
[14:19] <gordonDrogon> then: myDev = wiringPiFindNode (pin) ; // pin is the first pin of the device - the 'pinBase' you used.
[14:19] <gordonDrogon> then: fd = myDev->fd ;
[14:20] * Sonny_Jim makes a note
[14:20] <Sonny_Jim> I haven't got my 4021s yet so I'm still just fiddling around with the mcp
[14:20] <gordonDrogon> that gives you the I2C fd of the device, Then you can copy the code from mcp23017.c - look in the myDigitalWrite() function.
[14:21] <gordonDrogon> but essentially: wiringPiI2CWriteReg8 (fd, MCP23x17_GPIOA, value) ;
[14:21] <gordonDrogon> and GPIOB.
[14:21] <gordonDrogon> you'll need to #include "mcp23x0817.h"

[18:14] <Habbie> "Test on Wheezy-Raspian (2012-08-16) without USB Hub will be confirmed"
[18:14] <Habbie> well at least there's a date ;)
[18:15] <Habbie> Bilby, well if you need to rely on a binary blob you're already kind of lost
[18:15] <Habbie> my first wifi card (on a PC) involved loading the windows driver inside a wrapper
[18:15] <Habbie> it was not stable

[18:21] <Bilby> what are you outputting to?
[18:22] <Monkeyfish> a kinda small speaker
[18:22] <Monkeyfish> although the speaker is on the other side of some glass, so it's a bit too quiet

[18:23] <Bilby> There are HAT amplifier boards, or you could build one of your own fairly simply
[18:24] <Bilby> are you coming off of the analog audio out (1/8” jack) ?
[18:24] <Monkeyfish> yeah
[18:24] <Bilby> that’s essentially line level so yeah it’s not going to push a speaker well.
[18:25] <Bilby> these guys make a DAC HAT with amplifier: http://www.iqaudio.co.uk/
[18:25] <Monkeyfish> Also, what's with the terrible clipping (or, that's what I guess it is) at lower volume settings on the pi?
[18:25] <Bilby> there are a bunch of others too
[18:25] <Bilby> Monkeyfish, what Pi do you have?
[18:25] <Monkeyfish> Anything below ~80% and I hear more static and grumbly noises than actual voice clips that I was trying to play
[18:26] <Monkeyfish> Pi 2 B+, IIRC.
[18:26] <Bilby> Analog audio out on the 2 is okay, but it’s still pretty much just hulk-smashing digital audio through a resistor
[18:26] * djsxxx is now known as djsxxx_away
[18:26] <Bilby> do you have a TRRS plug you know has the right pinout?

[18:28] <Bilby> The 1/8” jack on the Pi 2 provides stereo audio and analog video through 4 conductors indicated by Tip, Ring, Ring, Shield or TRRS
[18:28] <Monkeyfish> the plug fit quite well so I assume so?
[18:28] <Bilby> It’s pinned like this —> http://www.instructables.com/file/FKX0SFXIATHBVDL/
[18:29] <Bilby> and is designed such that normally if you plug a headphone jack into it you’ll get sound
[18:29] <Bilby> however if it’s a loose fit or an imprecisely-made jack you may be getting some cross-noise from the video connector
[18:29] <Bilby> also, because the audio out is very dependent on timing accuracy, anything that consumes significant CPU will make the audio sound weird
[18:30] <Bilby> The cheapest fix is a USB sound card

[20:13] <Bilby> What kind of interface do the sensors have? Analog, digital, SPI, I2C ?
[20:14] <Bilby> if the connection method uses a library that already implements the threading, you don’t have to do much else
[20:14] * cyborglone (~cyborg-on@37.203.28.208) has joined #raspberrypi
[20:14] <gordonDrogon> ah, they're analog output.
[20:14] <gordonDrogon> so the first thing will be to get a suitable ADC.
[20:15] * linkedinyou (~linkediny@unaffiliated/linkedinyou) Quit (Quit: linkedinyou)
[20:15] <gordonDrogon> one that has as many channels as sensors you want to use.
[20:15] <gordonDrogon> however the issue is that you don't want to run long cables from each sensor back to the Pi, so you might need to think of a Plan B...
[20:15] * cyborg-one (~cyborg-on@130-0-41-37.broadband.tenet.odessa.ua) Quit (Ping timeout: 264 seconds)
[20:16] <ace139> gordonDrogon, Will there be voltage drop issues with the sensors when connected ?
[20:16] <Bilby> They play well with arduino, it looks like, so they may play well with an esp8266 or arduino + esp for wifi access — http://playground.arduino.cc/Main/MQGasSensors
[20:16] <gordonDrogon> probably not, but you might get electrical noise.
[20:17] * netzfisch (~Thunderbi@x55b06408.dyn.telefonica.de) Quit (Ping timeout: 256 seconds)
[20:17] <ace139> gordonDrogon, the thing was that I connected them with arduino before, but the problem I was having that there were voltage drop issues and the sensors were not giving the correct readings when connected together with the Arduino MEGA 2560
[20:18] <ace139> Bilby, I have done that with arduino, but having issues ^^
[20:18] <gordonDrogon> any voltage drop would be constant, so fixable once you calibrated it.
[20:18] <Bilby> were you powering the heater directly from the mega?
[20:19] <ace139> Bilby, gordonDrogon, I was using a powerbank to power it
[20:19] <ace139> portable powerbanks, like the one used for charging mobile and tablets.
[20:19] <Bilby> do you have a link to the datasheet for the specific sensors you are using?
[20:20] <pksato> use high voltage and put a 5v/2v regulator on individual sensor.
[20:20] * wireddude (~wireddude@unaffiliated/wireddude) has left #raspberrypi
[20:20] <ace139> Bilby, Well I have the datasheets. Let me check if I have the links.
[20:20] <Bilby> okay
[20:20] <Bilby> yeah it sounds like he’s going beyond what the powerbank can supply, though i thought most of those just shut down if you did that
[20:21] <pksato> sensor output noise can be mitigate using low pass filters.
[20:21] <mega_evade> !ops
[20:21] <mega_evade> so, who's op in here?
[20:21] <Bilby> your userlist should tell you, i think
[20:21] <sir_galahad_ad> seems a bit out of the blue

[20:23] <Bilby> yeah not sure what was up with that
[20:23] <Bilby> tho we are a bit light on ops right now
[20:24] <ace139> Bilby, Well I am not having the exact links but the sensors were MQ-135, MQ-7, MQ-2, downloaded the datasheets from www.datasheet4u.com
[20:24] * Bilby still finds it very bizarre that there are so many lurkers in these chanels
[20:24] * sir_galahad_ad lurks moar!
[20:24] <Bilby> lol
[20:25] <Bilby> ace139 how many sensors at once?
[20:25] <ace139> Bilby, 4 of them
[20:25] <ace139> With it I also had a SHARP Dust sensor for measuring PM2.5
[20:25] <Bilby> according to the data sheet for the MQ-135 it draws “less than” 800ma when the heater is active, soooooooo yeah
[20:25] <Bilby> oh sorry, mw
[20:26] <ace139> Bilby, so will it hold or I need to arrange for some other power supplies?
[20:27] <Bilby> okay not as bad, 160ma or so
[20:28] <Bilby> assuming the others are similar you’re only at 640ma
[20:28] * codestorm (~codestorm@cpe-76-94-72-91.socal.res.rr.com) Quit (Ping timeout: 264 seconds)
[20:28] <Bilby> and you were getting voltage drop on the 5v rail?
[20:28] <ace139> Bilby, yes. The time I was working with the Arduino
[20:29] <Bilby> how much power is the powerbank supposed to supply?
[20:29] <ace139> Bilby, when I tested the sensors individually it was working like a charm.
[20:29] <pksato> ace139: how far sensor from arduino (cable length)
[20:29] <ace139> Well I connected it with a 2A output
[20:30] <ace139> pksato, Well it was around 15-20 cm
[20:30] <Bilby> negligable
[20:30] <ace139> pksato, I used a bread board.
[20:31] <pksato> using a very thin wire?
[20:31] <ace139> pksato, standard jumper set I bought with arduino. Ya they are thin.
[20:32] <pksato> more what cat5 wire?

[20:36] <sir_galahad_ad> *wire* you so concernd about this
[20:36] <Bilby> Ran a more advanced calculation, it should be about a 13% drop or ~ 4.87vdc at the end assuming a 1A draw
[20:36] <pksato> sensor need 150mA.
[20:36] * sir_galahad_ad snickers
[20:37] <Bilby> besides, he should be seeing the same drop with one as with 4 sensors
[20:37] <Bilby> ace139, you’ll need some analog inputs via an ADC. here’s an example: https://learn.adafruit.com/reading-a-analog-in-and-controlling-audio-volume-with-the-raspberry-pi/overview
[20:38] <pksato> or, have drop on 5V source.
[20:38] <Bilby> and get yourself a plug-in power supply to test with
[20:38] <Bilby> right, that’s what i’m suspecting is happening
[20:38] <Bilby> possibly a cheap / junk bank that can’t even hit 1A consistent load
[20:39] <ace139> Bilby, quite possible, I went for the cheap one only. :P Was short on cash ! :D
[20:40] <ace139> Bilby, Let me go through the interfacing and will get back to you with the results. Thanks for the help. :)
