[22:05] <RedParrot> thoughts
[22:09] <sulaiman> what would happen if a solenoid that requires 650mA is passed 600mA from the power supply?
[22:10] <sulaiman> can regulated 12VDC at upto 600mA be used for something that draws 650mA at 12V?
[22:10] * Cromaglious_ (~robi@173.60.226.18) has joined #raspberrypi

[22:13] <mfa298> sulaiman: chances are it'll work, however you'll probably find it still draws 650mA from the PSU which might mean it becomes less regulated (more ripple) and may shorten the life of the PSU.
[22:13] <IT_Sean> if 'thing' is drawing up to 650mA, a 600mA supply will not be sufficient.
[22:13] <IT_Sean> the supply voltage may also sag
[22:14] * valeech (~valeech@166.170.28.118) Quit (Quit: valeech)
[22:16] <sulaiman> IT_Sean, mfa298: In the description it says, "This is a high quality AC to DC 'wall wart' which produces a regulated output of 12VDC at up to 600mA. These are switch mode power supplies which means the output is regulated to 12V and the capable output current is much higher (600mA!). These will power most projects that don't require more than 650mA of current" So it should be okay?
[22:17] <IT_Sean> if it's a 600mA supply, it will be suitable forr anything drawing 600mA or less. If it's chinese, the chances of it reliably supplying 600mA are slim to none.
[22:18] * Mikelevel (~MoVeWoRk@unaffiliated/mikelevel) has joined #raspberrypi
[22:19] <mfa298> It's always best to have a PSU thats rated over what you need for something that says it needs 650mA I'd probalby use at least a 700mA PSU
[22:20] <mfa298> going over a PSUs rating may appear to work but bad things may happen (overheating, shorter life, more ripple/noise)
[22:20] <IT_Sean> and if it's got a lot of chinesium in it, it may go BANG
[22:22] <sulaiman> thanks mfa298, IT_Sean

[23:29] <Simonious> added a wifi dongle to a raspi 3, because I've got it serving wifi AND I want it to connect to another wifi, followed these instructions for wlan1 http://weworkweplay.com/play/automatically-connect-a-raspberry-pi-to-a-wifi-network/ and.. sudo iwlist wlan0 scan - shows all the networks, sudo iwlist wlan1 scan - only shows the one I'm trying to connect to, but.. something isn't right, wlan1 gets an IP, but the IP doesn't matc
[23:29] <Simonious> anyone have a set of instructions for wifi setup that they like?
