[18:27] * RaspberryPiBot (~raspberry@unaffiliated/datagutt/bot/databot) has joined #raspberrypi
[18:27] * Topic is 'Unofficial RaspberryPi IRC channel but "Blessed" by the Foundation as the ONE channel. | Logs: http://srv.datagutt1.com | Rules: https://goo.gl/h5qPhz'
[18:27] * Set by gordonDrogon!~gordon@2001:4d48:ad51:8901::2 on Sat Dec 24 16:04:53 CET 2016
[18:28] * psiklops (~psiklops@unaffiliated/psiklops) has joined #raspberrypi
[18:28] <Blubberbub> for piano music i would expect that you really want as much sample rate as you can get.
[18:28] <at0m> Blubberbub: depends on the soundbanks SR...
[18:28] <Blubberbub> yea
[18:29] * willc (~willc@unaffiliated/willc) has joined #raspberrypi
[18:29] <at0m> makes no sense to upsample 44.1 to 92kHz. to 88.2 maybe, cos that halves the latency.
[18:29] * YuGiOhJCJ (~YuGiOhJCJ@gateway/tor-sasl/yugiohjcj) has joined #raspberrypi
[18:29] <Blubberbub> but piano is one of these instruments that produces a lot of high frequency waves on top of the base frequency that makes it sound "natural"/"good"?
[18:29] <at0m> ...without the resampling artifacts
[18:29] <psiklops> Hi. I have a RPi B V1.1 and want to hook up a Renkforce mSATA Adapter to GPIO. What GPIO Pins should i connect to for "D+ and D-" ?
[18:30] <Blubberbub> but you are right - if you are only playing 44.1kHz there is no need to go bigger than that
[18:30] * nealshire (~nealshire@unaffiliated/nealshire) has joined #raspberrypi
[18:30] <at0m> Blubberbub: yea it has lots of overtones. which you probably do not hear cos out of audible range
[18:31] <psiklops> The pinning is an alternative to USB powering and data transfer.
[18:31] <at0m> then again, even amongst studio producers like myself there's endless discussion on samplerates.
[18:31] * energizer (~energizer@unaffiliated/energizer) has joined #raspberrypi
[18:31] <psiklops> Just don't know which pins are for USB (D+ and D-)
[18:31] * lok0 (~jediraste@cpc94276-ward11-2-0-cust323.10-2.cable.virginm.net) Quit (Quit: lok0)
[18:32] * Mikelevel (~MoVeWoRk@unaffiliated/mikelevel) has joined #raspberrypi
[18:32] * rguz10 (~rguz10@irc.rguz10.com) has joined #raspberrypi
[18:32] <gordonDrogon> psiklops, what pins does the manual suggest you use?
[18:33] * jediraster (~jediraste@cpc94276-ward11-2-0-cust323.10-2.cable.virginm.net) has joined #raspberrypi
[18:33] <gordonDrogon> psiklops, oh - it's a USB device?
[18:33] <psiklops> gordonDrogon, Thats the thing, the Instructions do not point out any GPIO Pins directly.
[18:34] <gordonDrogon> psiklops, if it's a USB device then you have no choice - you must connect it to one of the USB sockets on the Pi, NOT the GPIO.
[18:34] <psiklops> gordonDrogon, yes USB_m is for micro, and there are 4 pins for USB_P to use over GPIO
[18:35] * dreamon_ (~dreamon@unaffiliated/dreamon) Quit (Ping timeout: 248 seconds)
[18:35] <gordonDrogon> there is no USB on the Pi's GPIO connector.
[18:35] <psiklops> gordonDrogon, but Data pins ?
[18:36] <psiklops> 5 V | Ground | and pins for D+ and D- ?
[18:36] <gordonDrogon> there is no USB on the Pi's GPIO connector. (he said, a 2nd time)
[18:36] <Blubberbub> so you need to solder yourself a usb connector?
[18:36] * rguz10 (~rguz10@irc.rguz10.com) Quit (Ping timeout: 248 seconds)
[18:37] <gordonDrogon> psiklops, do you have a link to the webpage describing this device?
[18:37] <psiklops> ok, no problem :-)
[18:37] <psiklops> One sec.
[18:37] * drcode (~drcode@89.237.73.69) Quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds)
[18:41] * fatalhalt (~fatalhalt@c-67-163-60-93.hsd1.il.comcast.net) has joined #raspberrypi
[18:44] * ali1234 (~ajbuxton@2a01:4f8:162:4348::2) Quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds)
[18:46] <psiklops> gordonDrogon, https://www.conrad.de/de/msata-ssd-erweiterungs-platine-fuer-den-raspberry-pi-1337091.html
[18:47] <psiklops> thats not directly the one, but the same principle
[18:48] * ModFather (~ModFather@unaffiliated/modfather) has joined #raspberrypi
[18:48] <Blubberbub> psiklops, just attach it with a usb cable?
[18:48] <psiklops> it has the option either: Micro-USB or 5-Pin Connection
[18:49] <Blubberbub> and you choose 5-pin?
[18:49] <psiklops> Blubberbub, i need thge USB ports
[18:50] * rguz10 (~rguz10@irc.rguz10.com) has joined #raspberrypi
[18:50] <psiklops> Blubberbub, yes, they are not 5, they are only 4
[18:51] <psiklops> there is always a Pin missing
[18:52] <Blubberbub> but these pins use usb protocol?
[18:53] <psiklops> Blubberbub, yes, D+ and D-
[18:53] <psiklops> plus 5 V and Ground
[18:53] <Blubberbub> so you would need to program a gpio usb library ;)
[18:53] <Blubberbub> i guess...
[18:53] * Lerch (~lerch@66.129.246.4) has joined #raspberrypi
[18:53] <gordonDrogon> psiklops, ok. my guess is that it's taking power from gpio and you need to hook up a standard USB cable too.
[18:54] <gordonDrogon> so USB A to USB-A.
[18:55] <gordonDrogon> looks like it's designed to plug directly into an mSata drive.
[18:55] <psiklops> gordonDrogon, i have soldered off a 2xUSB Port anyway, so i'll hook it up to that
[18:55] <gordonDrogon> which would make for a weird enclosure, however.
[18:56] * svm_invictvs (~svm_invic@unaffiliated/svminvictvs/x-938456) has joined #raspberrypi
[18:56] <gordonDrogon> on closer inspection, it doesn't touch the GPIO at all. it's just a USB board on-top of a Pi.
[18:56] * Dragon092 (~Dragon@2001:4ba0:ffa4:298::) has joined #raspberrypi
[18:57] <Blubberbub> if i understand psiklops correctly its version without the usb port but just 5 or 4 cables sticking out of it
[18:57] * ali1234 (~ajbuxton@2a01:4f8:162:4348::2) has joined #raspberrypi
[18:58] * Lerch (~lerch@66.129.246.4) Quit (Ping timeout: 248 seconds)
[19:02] <psiklops> gordonDrogon, Blubberbub http://picpaste.de/IMG_20170920_185947.jpg
[19:02] * mnemonic (~semeion@unaffiliated/semeion) Quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds)
[19:03] <Blubberbub> i'd say the 5-pin-connector is just USB without the fancy connector attached?
[19:03] <psiklops> Blubberbub, jepp
[19:04] * VikingHoarder (~VikingHoa@203.233.108.93.rev.vodafone.pt) Quit (Remote host closed the connection)
[19:04] <psiklops> thats it, the White(or Gold) and Green cables in a USB cable
[19:04] * kihis (uid4787@gateway/web/irccloud.com/x-ftdhnxboerokvsjz) Quit (Quit: Connection closed for inactivity)
[19:05] <psiklops> + the Black and Red
[19:05] <Blubberbub> so i see 2 options: 1. Adding a usb connector to these 5 pins and connecting it to usb. 2. Trying to connect these pins to GPIO and use some weird GPIO-magic to implement usb. Get frustrated. Use solution 1. ;)
[19:05] * MonJamp (uid156866@gateway/web/irccloud.com/x-lqoixhiwtaskbmos) Quit (Quit: Connection closed for inactivity)
[19:05] * mgottschlag (~quassel@reactos/tester/phoenix64) has joined #raspberrypi
[19:05] <psiklops> Blubberbub, :-D
[19:06] * willc (~willc@unaffiliated/willc) Quit (Ping timeout: 248 seconds)
[19:07] * Afkbio (~Afk@unaffiliated/afkbio) has joined #raspberrypi
[19:07] * rguz10 (~rguz10@irc.rguz10.com) Quit (Ping timeout: 260 seconds)
[19:07] * DeadTOm (~deadtom@2001:4b98:dc0:41:216:3eff:fe58:44d0) has joined #raspberrypi
[19:08] <Blubberbub> I'm struggling to output my serial 4096MBit/s with GPIO, so i really don't see a lot of future for USB over gpio. But that might just be my incompetence
[19:09] <Blubberbub> *4.096MBit/4096kBit - wrong by a factor of 1000 - ups.
[19:14] * mschorm (mschorm@nat/redhat/x-exbxzonxgqwaqxcw) Quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds)
[19:15] <gordonDrogon> you're trying to get 4M/sec data over GPIO? that's not hard - how areyou doing it?
[19:16] <Blubberbub> i'm trying to use PWM in serialize mode and fill the data with DMA+DREQ, but for some reason PWM-GAP is always set
[19:16] * brainzap (~brainzap@46-126-143-230.dynamic.hispeed.ch) has joined #raspberrypi
[19:17] <Blubberbub> (using both PWM channels at the same time)
[19:17] * davr0s (~textual@host81-155-67-232.range81-155.btcentralplus.com) has joined #raspberrypi
[19:17] <Blubberbub> the first one always indicates a gap
[19:19] <gordonDrogon> is there a reason you don't use SPI? IT can go up to 48Mb/sec ..
[19:19] * Viper168_ is now known as Viper168
[19:22] * niq84 (~niq84@3x0.eu) Quit (Remote host closed the connection)
[19:23] * niq84 (~niq84@3x0.eu) has joined #raspberrypi
[19:23] <Blubberbub> gordonDrogon, i have to look into it if i can use it. But i have a constant feed of data and to me it looks like SPI has some sort of idle time?
[19:24] <gordonDrogon> there is latency between each transfer happening.
[19:24] <gordonDrogon> do big xfers - e.g. to the lcd displays you see is fine, but lots of little xfers to e.g. DACs is relatively slow.
[19:25] * supajerm (~supajerm@c-73-176-202-127.hsd1.in.comcast.net) has joined #raspberrypi
[19:26] <Blubberbub> i can't have packets or transfers. I need a constant stream of bits on 2 synchronised output pins :/
[19:26] <gordonDrogon> ok.
[19:27] * mschorm (mschorm@nat/redhat/x-wtdvtxfmsbqsuput) has joined #raspberrypi
[19:27] <gordonDrogon> have you looked a the pigpio library? (it may not be fast enough for you though)
[19:27] <Blubberbub> not yet.
[19:28] <Blubberbub> at the moment i'm testing a simple 8-command DMA-loop that waits for DREQ from PWM but that is already not fast enough - it appears.
[19:28] <Blubberbub> or it is some weird bug that the GAP-indicator turns on
[19:29] <Blubberbub> sadly i only have an old analogous oscilloscope here for looking at the output and there i can not see any gaps... but that does not mean they don't exist, i guess
[19:30] <Blubberbub> maybe DMA is just not fast enough alltogether or something else is using it on my raspberry that limits its bandwidth
[19:30] <Blubberbub> i think my next attempt will be to go baremetal
[19:31] <Blubberbub> it might also be a problem that i have to use MACH1 for the PWM-clock to be at my desired frequency :/
[19:33] * pavlushka_ (~pavlushka@ubuntu/member/pavlushka) has joined #raspberrypi
[19:33] * pavlushka (~pavlushka@ubuntu/member/pavlushka) Quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds)
[19:35] * pavlushka_ is now known as pavlushka
[19:35] <Blubberbub> psiklops, maybe you can use some sort of USB-Hub on the raspberry for your other devices?
[19:37] * mflow (~code@unaffiliated/shiningthrough) has joined #raspberrypi
[19:37] * jdawgaz (~Jerry@ip70-176-27-239.ph.ph.cox.net) Quit (Quit: My MacBook has gone to sleep. ZZZzzz…)
[19:38] <mflow> How can I connect to a Raspberry Pi which cannot boot due to a Linux kernel panic because of misconfigured /boot/cmdline.txt root partition and if I do not have a keyboard I can connect to the Pi to be able to edit the GRUB bootloader menu entry and change the kernel params?
[19:40] * Lerch (~lerch@66.129.246.4) has joined #raspberrypi
[19:40] <psiklops> Blubberbub, That's my last resort ;-) Good luck
[19:40] <Blubberbub> mflow, take the sd card and plug it into your linux computer to change the file?
[19:41] * rguz10 (~rguz10@irc.rguz10.com) has joined #raspberrypi
[19:44] * ModFather (~ModFather@unaffiliated/modfather) Quit (Quit: Textual IRC Client: www.textualapp.com)
[19:44] * energizer (~energizer@unaffiliated/energizer) Quit (Ping timeout: 248 seconds)
[19:46] <Blubberbub> gordonDrogon, maybe i CAN use SPI with the "long bit stream"-technique. But i have no real clue how to set the clock to my needed frequency.
[19:46] * mythos (~mythos@unaffiliated/mythos) Quit (Ping timeout: 258 seconds)
[19:48] * djk (~Thunderbi@pool-96-242-33-96.nwrknj.fios.verizon.net) Quit (Remote host closed the connection)
[19:49] <mflow> Blubberbub: ah, right, thanks; I wanted to edit the .img file I dded from the sd card, but just plugging the sdcard in and editing the /boot/cmdline.txt and /boot/config.txt is easier

[21:56] <mgottschlag> huh, that alone shouldn't break the SSH server - or what do you mean?
[21:56] <Li> it shows that it picks up the given static ip normally .. but I don't know why there is no response from pinging it
[21:57] <Li> break it?
[21:57] <Habbie> 'not pinging' was not broken by you putting the ssh file in
[21:57] <mgottschlag> ah, so you have local access to it?
[21:57] <Habbie> that's for sure
[21:57] <Li> please read point # 4 https://caffinc.github.io/2016/12/raspberry-pi-3-headless/
