[0:02] <GenteelBen> GrandPa-G, you should be sipping lemonade and watching the grandkids play, not fiddling with GPIO pinouts.
[0:02] <GrandPa-G> almost. Real program A reads pins from sensor (but sensor is not there). Progam B (simulator) writes another pin that is wired to sensor pin.
[0:03] * TReK (~UnFaQ@unaffiliated/trek) Quit (Ping timeout: 260 seconds)
[0:04] <GrandPa-G> GenteelBen:A) lemonade costs money, b)grandkids too old to watch, iii)wife needs me to busy to be out of her way.
[0:04] * finlstrm (~finlstrm@ip70-188-141-213.ri.ri.cox.net) has joined #raspberrypi
[0:05] <GrandPa-G> I guess the real question is can you just wire on pin to another, make one out, the in?
[0:05] * TReK (~UnFaQ@unaffiliated/trek) has joined #raspberrypi
[0:07] <GenteelBen> Are you the cool kind of grandpa, or the kind of grandpa with controversial opinions on BLM and female suffrage?
[0:07] <GenteelBen> If you're the former, we should totally build something together.
[0:08] <GrandPa-G> As someone said of another elder, The word hip was invented just to describe me.
[0:09] <GenteelBen> https://www.etymonline.com/word/hip
[0:09] <GenteelBen> ' hip (adj.) "informed," 1904 '
[0:09] <GenteelBen> Username checks out.
[0:10] <GenteelBen> The word "hip" was coined to describe GrandPa-G in 1904, during his college days.
[0:10] <GrandPa-G> GenteelBen:are you kidding, I was way past college by then!

[0:11] <GrandPa-G> GenteelBen:I am as old as dirt, my social security number is 1.
[0:12] <GrandPa-G> GenteelBen:and I have only been wrong 1 time in my life. I remember it well. It was 15 years ago this next Christmas. On that day I thought I was wrong.
[0:14] <GenteelBen> GrandPa-G: you're like the guy they're describing in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=md0mUnd9QPk
[0:16] <GrandPa-G> GenteelBen:more like this https://www.youtube.com/embed/7lSliucgygc

[1:36] <cybr1d> HeathHayle: So why'd you leave us?
[1:37] <HeathHayle> cybr1d: cos I had my ops removed
[1:37] <cybr1d> Everyone did.
[1:37] <cybr1d> What's that matter?
[1:38] <cybr1d> With anon and jk and all the others asking for ops, it really it easier just to have none.
[1:40] <HeathHayle> cybr1d: why let anon and jk bover you lol
[1:40] <HeathHayle> and the others
[1:40] <cybr1d> Why let ops (or lack of) bother you?
[1:41] <HeathHayle> lol cos I like ops
[1:41] <cybr1d> You don't need the status of op anymore than jq does.
[1:41] <cybr1d> so does he
[1:41] <cybr1d> should we give him ops back too?
[1:41] <HeathHayle> no lol
[1:41] <cybr1d> exactly.
[1:41] <cybr1d> Well I've said my peace. Hope to see you back in the room soon.
[1:42] <HeathHayle> cybr1d: when I get ops I will be back ūüėĚ
[1:42] <cybr1d> You'd just better make it back in before we get annoying and ban your client for auto-joining.
[1:42] <HeathHayle> bac
[1:42] <cybr1d> Well thats not happening so oh well. nice knowing you.

[4:22] * Dojka (~Dojka@184.75.221.98) has joined #raspberrypi

[4:32] <d0rm0us3> next step I'd take would be get a diff usb dongle and replicate the test
[4:33] <d0rm0us3> One that's known to work in monitor in the kali environ
[4:33] <Demannu> Well, I have a TPLink that I've been using in monitor mode
[4:33] <Demannu> I bought the PAU05 as a more form-factor solution for the project.
[4:34] * shantorn (~W7SAK-Sha@67-5-133-199.ptld.qwest.net) Quit (Quit: Leaving)
[4:34] <d0rm0us3> It may be an issue with differences in the driver for the diff environment.
[4:34] <Demannu> I've tried manually entering monitor mode via iwconfig as well as airmon-ng. Airmon-ng weirdly displays ???? for the driver, so I assume it's missing it somewhere.

[4:35] <d0rm0us3> or Mister_X
[4:35] <Demannu> I didn't want to directly ping them, I posted it to there as well.
[4:35] <Hitechcg> if it's a Pi3 or a Pi0W you can use nexmon for monitor mode on the built-in Wi-Fi chip itself
[4:36] <Demannu> Hitechcg: The onboard is currently a hostapd for control

[4:37] <d0rm0us3> these instances aren't VM's?
[4:38] <Demannu> Correct.
[4:38] <d0rm0us3> Post in the forums as well... get a bit of broader coverage that way.
[4:39] <Demannu> Will do. I saw a post on reddit from 3 months ago with someone having the same issue. They just couldn't articulate the actual issue
[4:39] <d0rm0us3> Of course the winnowing process is a bit higher that way
[4:39] <Demannu> rpi forums + kali?
[4:39] <d0rm0us3> Not rpi... yer the first that's asked that since I've been in here.

[4:39] * Dojka_ is now known as Dojka
[4:39] <d0rm0us3> But if that's what you feel is necessary.. Yeah...
[4:40] <Demannu> I'm fairly competent, so I'm going to try to diagnose the issue as well.
[4:40] <d0rm0us3> If I can be of service... I got a pi 2

[4:58] <Demannu> So, I seem to have found an issue with it.
[4:58] <Demannu> With the TPLink, it's always wlan1, while Panda is now wlan0 for some reason.
[4:59] <Demannu> That could confuse an end-user and threw me for a loop for a second until I sanity checked

[6:58] <Hitechcg> Demannu: I think it's either the order in which the drivers are loaded or the order in which the system finds them, not sure which
[7:00] <Demannu> Hitechcg: I found a rule from that Re4s0n guy. Worked nicely, so I just dropped it in.
[7:00] <Hitechcg> anyways, systemd made a change a while ago to give interfaces predictable names based on hardware layout, see https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/PredictableNetworkInterfaceNames/

[7:00] <Demannu> Ooh interesting
[7:00] <Demannu> I used udev
[7:00] <Hitechcg> but raspbian and kali disable it by default because tons of scripts hardcode stuff like "wlan0"
[7:01] <Demannu> https://github.com/Re4son/raspberrypi_70-persistent-net.rules/blob/master/70-persistent-net.rules
[7:02] <Hitechcg> tbh if I were you I'd probably remove that and enable the predictable systemd names ("rm /etc/systemd/network/99-default.link")
[7:03] <Hitechcg> but with USB adapters you'd probably have to live with really ugly interface names (like "wlx00aa11bb22cc")
[7:03] <Demannu> Yeah... that is less than optimal lol
[7:03] <Demannu> Sometimes I have to manually type them from a mobile interface
[7:08] <Hitechcg> btw you should probably use iw instead of iwconfig

[7:27] <Hitechcg> that's fine, I just like to know how to set up monitor mode myself

[15:58] <ilkappe_> hello guys
[15:58] <ilkappe_> does anybody know if the raspberrypi3 has a watchdog timer ?
[16:01] <Habbie> ilkappe_, what problem areyou trying to solve?
[16:02] <gordonDrogon> ilkappe_, the answer is "Yes".
[16:03] <gordonDrogon> ilkappe_, even if it didn't, there is a standard Linux software watchdog in every single Linux system, should it be needed.

[16:06] <ilkappe_> What I want to accomplish is that when uboot fails to load a ROOTFS, it should load the other one
[16:07] <ilkappe_> I've seen some watchdog features inside the u-boot srcs but still not know how to integrate them with the raspberry board definitions
[16:07] <ilkappe_> Any suggestion is appreciated
[16:07] <gordonDrogon> I care zero for uboot, but I suspect using the hardware watchdog timer might not be the best solution here. Unless uboot is actually a linux kernel, or you know how to modify it to poke the hardware timer.

[16:08] <gordonDrogon> I'd start by getting the Pi kernel sources and looking at the code for the watchdog timer. Usually when the hardware timer expires, it causes a hard reset...

[17:48] <benoliver999> So I've got rasbian minimal installed and working. Installed xserver-xorg, then installed raspberrypi-ui-mods --no-install-recommends. Lightdm starts automatically, but when I try to log in PIXEL fails. .xsession-errors reads '/usr/bin/lxsession: not found'
[17:49] <benoliver999> Followed this guide: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=133691 which doesn't suggest I should need anything else, but it's likely a little out of date
