[0:02] <akk> I haven't taken one apart (and maybe that should be your first step), but I'd guess that adapting a display connector might take a lot of very fiddly hardware hacking.
[0:03] <akk> It's probably possible, but might be quite difficult.
[0:03] <akk> e.g. you might need to desolder/resolder some SMD components.

[2:50] <ozzzy_> howdy all
[2:50] <ozzzy_> will a Pi2 play 1080p videos without lagging/shuddering?
[2:51] <Maai> not/a/clue
[2:51] <IanTLopp> ozzzy: I think it's possible, but the file would have to be specially formatted for it.
[2:52] <ozzzy_> so... just a generic MKV with H264 and AC3
[2:52] <IanTLopp> i.e. unless you're running something like plex on it, or a specific format (I think h.264) then the graphics chip won't handle it as well and it will be problematic.
[2:52] <IanTLopp> ozzzy_, ought to work.
[2:52] <ozzzy_> tks
[2:52] <IanTLopp> especially through kodi on libreelec.
[2:52] <IanTLopp> you're welcome
[2:52] <ozzzy_> yeah.... openelec
[2:53] <IanTLopp> I don't have a raspi 2 myself for that reason.. I wanted a raspberry pi that could handle 1080p without a problem, and at the time I was looking into raspi's the 2 just couldn't cut it without a extra work.
[2:53] <IanTLopp> no, libreelec
[2:53] <ozzzy_> I've done lots of stuff with pis..... but no videos on the 2s
[2:53] <ozzzy_> the 3s have no issues
[2:53] <IanTLopp> ozzzy_, I love my 3s
[2:53] <ozzzy_> me too
[2:53] <ozzzy_> I have one running openelec and one in a pitop
[2:53] <IanTLopp> just wish I could order zeroes more than one at a time.
[2:54] <IanTLopp> libreelec
[2:54] <ozzzy_> libre... open... [shrug]
[2:54] <SirLagz> x264 will work fine
[2:54] <IanTLopp> HUGE difference.
[2:54] <SirLagz> as long as it's not too high a bitrate
[2:54] <ozzzy_> it's like libreoffice and openoffice
[2:54] <ozzzy_> I prefer openoffice
[2:54] <IanTLopp> ozzzy_, huge difference between those as well, and again, libre is much better.
[2:54] <IanTLopp> and that's not a subjective thought.
[2:54] <ozzzy_> oookay
[2:54] <IanTLopp> the open team has backed off support rather heavily
[2:55] <ozzzy_> Apache?
[2:55] <IanTLopp> the libre team have stepped up with the latest open source releases and continued to support them VERY heavily.
[2:55] <IanTLopp> openoffice still doesn't even properly support .docx files, for instance, while libreoffice has no problems.
[2:55] <IanTLopp> same kind of story with openelec and libreelec.
[2:55] <ozzzy_> I don't use docx
[2:56] <IanTLopp> ozzzy_, it doesn't matter. it's a matter of support. with regards to openoffice, they're going commercial and working with enterprises to provide support, leaving your average end user to fend for themselves. You get a MUCH older version of the software and damn near no support. libreoffice, meanwhile is based on the same kind of license as debian, by the people, for the people, can never be bought or sold.
[2:57] <IanTLopp> you will always get support, bug fixes, etc. with libreoffice comparatively.
[2:57] <ozzzy_> IanTLopp, that doesn't matter to me
[2:57] * victorhck (~victorhck@opensuse/member/victorhck) Quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
[2:58] <IanTLopp> ozzzy_, then enjoy your software.. I'm not saying you can't and shouldn't, but just be prepared to change over if/when the time comes that the version you have no longer agrees with the linux distro you're running.
[2:58] <IanTLopp> things can and do become depricated.
[2:58] <IanTLopp> I know people who still run Winamp, who refuse to update, and that's fine - but eventually it won't work, much as it doesn't work on 7.0 and above on android.
[2:58] <IanTLopp> brb.
[2:58] <ozzzy_> IanTLopp, all I use it for is building a powerpoint file once a month... and to print an address page to stick on a parcel once in a while
[3:00] <ozzzy_> as for libre/open elec.... it's only so my grandkids can watch the videos on the NAS when they come over. but my buddy wants to try a Pi and all I have handy to give him is a Pi2
[3:00] <IanTLopp> ozzzy_, again, I'm not saying you can't use it, or shouldn't, but just remember eventually you may need to change out.
[3:00] <IanTLopp> and it's for that reason.
[3:00] <IanTLopp> ozzzy_, I gotcha.
[3:01] <ozzzy_> once I'm no longer president of the club... I'll probably uninstall openoffice
[3:01] * victorhck (~victorhck@opensuse/member/victorhck) has joined #raspberrypi
[3:01] <ozzzy_> Wordpad will print address pages LOL
[3:02] <ozzzy_> anyway... I'll give the Pi2 a shot at videos
[3:02] <ozzzy_> tks all
[3:03] <IanTLopp> ozzzy_, no worries, you're welcome
[3:09] * ozzzy_ hates losing projects [sigh]
[3:11] <IanTLopp> ergh.. when I put the file into the proper folder it disappears
[3:12] <ozzzy_> fortunately, a description is in the club's newsletter
[3:12] <ozzzy_> re: using a Pi on a telescope mount to run focus motors, pass USB via ethernet etc.

[10:02] <gordonDrogon> it's just bog-standard serial assuming the hardware is supported.
[10:02] <gordonDrogon> you use the same kernel calls to use serial over usb to use on-board hardware serial.

[17:20] <redrabbit> https://images-eu.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41Dqctgh6fL._SS196_.jpg
[17:20] <gordonDrogon> redrabbit, I've built a lot of outdoor stuff - the trick is to never turn it off, so it never goes cold - condensation is a big worry.
[17:21] <IanTLopp> redrabbit, ahh... for some reason I had something totally different in mind.
[17:21] <redrabbit> yeah in that case the esp are going to deep sleep 99% of the time :p
[17:21] <gordonDrogon> Hah - I have one of those :)
[17:21] <redrabbit> but yeah, i use that trick for a lot of gear
[17:22] <redrabbit> in a sealed package you dont have to worry about condensation though
[17:22] <gordonDrogon> sealing to that level is not easy though.
[17:22] <redrabbit> well that's why i got the sealing machine for
[17:23] <gordonDrogon> that won't seal cables to bags.
[17:23] <redrabbit> yeah definitely
[17:23] <redrabbit> i only use it for stuff that are contained withing the bag
[17:23] <gordonDrogon> they're designed to heat seal bags along a flat edge to keep food fresh, etc.
[17:23] <redrabbit> no cables
[17:23] <gordonDrogon> ah, ok.
[17:23] <redrabbit> maybe some hot glue could make it work with the cables
[17:24] <gordonDrogon> Get a scuba cylinder full of air (ot some nitrogen) and flush the bag through before sealing - it's very dry air.

[21:21] <redcar> where i can get help?
[21:21] <redcar> :(
[21:21] <IT_Sean> I would start with Google, or the kali website for instructions.
[21:22] <shauno> I gotta say you're not making it very easy either. lots of guessing & filling in the blanks. (eg, kali should have been the first thing you mentioned, not the last). the old "garbage in, garbage out" thing totally applies
[21:22] <IT_Sean> that too ^
[21:22] <Habbie> 'be helpable'
[21:22] <redcar> i installed raspbian to raspberry pi and i put ssh file into /root but it don’t works tool
[21:23] <H4ndy> because you need to put it on /boot
[21:23] <Habbie> so the instructions are /boot, not /root
[21:23] <redcar> i did it
[21:23] <redcar> Habbie: :(
[21:23] <Habbie> and you never mentioned -how- it failed
[21:23] <IT_Sean> Again... this is not a support channel. Noone here is being paid to hold your hand. If you have _specific questions_, you are free to ask them, but, just coming in and saying "it doesn't work" is not going to get you anywhere.
[21:23] <Habbie> you are giving us no useful information to base the help on
