[0:02] <davr0s> like a Megadrive+32X ?
[0:02] <GenteelBen> Kind of. The 32X rendered the front layer, the Mega Drive rendered the background.
[0:03] <davr0s> now i tried the camera .. the usual commands like raspivid - those would show a preview on my other pi but strangely not here
[0:03] <GenteelBen> S&K was "lock on technology".
[0:03] <davr0s> better still..
[0:03] <davr0s> lets have a Hitachi SH-series SBC?
[0:04] <davr0s> a SaturnPi or DreamCastPi
[0:04] <davr0s> maybe those chips are too obsolete

[0:10] <davr0s> awesome, the camera in my new pi0w works, no broken connector haha. but 'raspivid' etc doesn't seem to show a preview onscreen like it does on my other pi0 install, strange.
[0:10] <davr0s> (i've copied the recorded file to my mac to view it)
[0:16] <davr0s> strange i get more google results for getting rid of the raspivid preview.
[0:16] <davr0s> none of the options i've tried work :( ... -p etc

[13:07] <ebarch> neckro: yup. an RSS file is a glorified list of links
[13:07] <ebarch> so each new episode appears in the RSS feed (which points to something like an mp3 file)
[13:09] <neckro> ebarch, so i`m looking so far in the right direction :))
[13:10] <ebarch> and nearly every podcast has an RSS stream. that's how "podcatcher" software works (auto download on new eps)
[13:13] <ebarch> i'm not sure I totally understand what you're looking to do from your forum post. are the Pis receiving the audio under your control?
[13:13] <neckro> ok, and know any server / client that i can use? the server can be windows/linux. Only client must be debian text mode
[13:13] <neckro> Yep.
[13:13] <ebarch> so you're capturing an existing audio stream and saving it as MP3s?
[13:14] <neckro> I want somethink like a regular stream and all clients should listen on it. Due to lack of bandwidth, i need to use a RSS system.
[13:15] <ebarch> well a stream is fundamentally different than an audio file. a stream is realtime. are you looking for listening to something in real time or recording and listening later?
[13:16] <neckro> Is a announcement system that i`m try to build. 99.9% of them will be audio files.
[13:17] <ebarch> hmm. can you describe the whole system? where does the audio come from originally?
[13:18] <neckro> ebarch, from audio files.
[13:18] <ebarch> right but are you download them from the net? or creating them locally on the PC you want to "broadcast" from?
[13:18] <ebarch> downloading*
[13:19] <neckro> as both Pi3 will use 3G broadband will be over the internet.
[13:20] <ebarch> it sounds like you're really just looking to sync audio files from a PC to your Pis over the internet then?
[13:20] * dr3w_ (~dr3w_@abercs/dr3w) has joined #raspberrypi
[13:21] <neckro> yep, and there is the RSS job. Any minute cand appear a new file, and the client must see it to play.
[13:24] <ebarch> ah, I gotcha. well you may be able to do this even simpler. just have a folder with the audio files on the PC. then setup an SSH server. then have the Pis sync that folder periodically (using something like a cron job). the software known as "rsync" is smart about syncing folders over SSH. if nothing has changed, it transfers almost no bandwidth
[13:26] <ebarch> and you could even go simpler. just setup an HTTP server (apache, nginx, etc) that serves the audio folder. then just have the Pis visit that URL to check for new files.
[13:28] <neckro> That is not something that a RSS is doing?
[13:28] <ebarch> check this out to see how you could download the files using HTTP from the pis (using wget): https://stackoverflow.com/questions/23446635/how-to-download-http-directory-with-all-files-and-sub-directories-as-they-appear
[13:29] <ebarch> you could accomplish something similar to RSS. but it sounds like it would just add complexity for your project
[13:29] <ebarch> with RSS*

[15:37] <red9> Regarding fans that stop running. There's two ways to deal with it. One is to use the rotational feedback pin, if(stop) then lower_freq(); The other one is to sense core temperature and throttle frequency in the same manner. That way you can get the benefit of lower temperature without the frying at the end.

[23:24] <N0Lif3> what kind of microusb cable do you guys recommend for the Pi3 (old one), I tried the assortment of microusb cables and phone chargers I have and periodically I always see the lightning bolt symbol in the corner, as though it's not getting enough juice

[23:28] <akk> N0Lif3: Can yes, but it's not recommended. Generally people recommend at least 2 amps, and USB chargers are usually much less than an amp.
[23:29] <akk> It's best to order a power supply made for the Pi with >2 amps rather than trying to use charger plugs.
[23:29] <Johnythesmith> Without anything else connected, it can use up to ~0.8 amps, 2-3 are recommended.
[23:30] <Johnythesmith> (a bit under 0.8, i know it was 3 point something watts, just going with 4 will be 0.8 on 5V)
[23:31] * JasonCL (~JasonCL@cpe-174-109-154-111.nc.res.rr.com) has joined #raspberrypi
[23:31] <N0Lif3> can it be powered from two sources at once?
[23:33] <akk> Apparently not, or at least there are always huge warnings about plugging in the 5v pin on the serial cable if there's also a power supply plugged in.
[23:33] <akk> (I admit I did it accidentally once, briefly, and didn't fry the Pi.)

[23:38] <stiv> the big issue with phone chargers is they are designed to charge batteries - a device that doesn't care much about smooth power. your pi does care

[23:44] <Johnythesmith> though id assume 5V wouldnt be very likely to do real damage. Not saying it cant and it certainly can lead to temporarily unstable behaviour and with that potential corruption of the SD, thatd be the most likely problems id think.

[23:47] <Milos> I have a Raspberry Pi Zero W, and it emits a surprisingly loud fuzzy tone whenever the WiFi is transmitting/receiving data. If I put my finger on the 4R7 chip, the noise slightly changes in tone, as if it were being strangled or something. So I think that' the chip making the sound. My question is, is that normal? It seems really quite unnecessarily loud. I also don't remember having this problem with the Pi3. I have another Pi Zero W but
[23:47] <Milos> I can't be bothered soldering two more wires onto its GPIO pins which is how I'm powering this one. Do you think it's the 4R7 making this noise?
