[18:19] <woenx> Hey. What's the best way to forward MQTT messages to a influxdb database? (in a raspberry pi running raspbian)
[18:19] <woenx> I was using node-red, and it works, but it uses too much ram and I'd like something more simple
[18:25] <woenx> I was thinking about this: https://www.npmjs.com/package/influx4mqtt

[18:26] <shortstheory> Hi everyone!
[18:26] <shortstheory> I want to use my raspberry pi 2 as a wifi hotspot to stream video from a quadcopter. What wifi dongle works in AP mode with the Raspberry Pi?
[18:26] * j7k6 (~j7k6@gateway/tor-sasl/j7k6) Quit (Ping timeout: 250 seconds)
[18:27] <shortstheory> I wasn't happy with the 3B+'s wifi hotspot performance, so I'm looking into using a wifi dongle
[18:27] * j7k6 (~j7k6@gateway/tor-sasl/j7k6) has joined #raspberrypi
[18:29] <methuzla> waveform, working now. not sure what i did unfortunately. may have been breadboard related wiring. but i think it might have just been a need to set bus freq. the default was too high.
[18:31] * Keanu73 (~Keanu73@2ProIntl/User/Geek/Keanu73) Quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
[18:32] <genr8__> shortstheory: you could just use an old router to do the wifi part, ti would be stronger. then hook the pi up via ethernet
[18:32] <genr8__> and you could basically start now instead of having to figure all that other stuff out
[18:33] <shortstheory> The raspberry pi will be mounted on the quadcopter and will use the camera module for streaming the video using gstreamer
[18:33] <shortstheory> Currently we're using the 3B's wifi chip in AP mode, but the range is poor
[18:33] <shortstheory> Powering a router on the quadcopter would be hard
[18:36] * graphene (~graphene@46.101.134.251) Quit (Remote host closed the connection)
[18:36] <genr8__> ah :)
[18:37] * Johnjay (26780a63@gateway/web/freenode/ip.38.120.10.99) Quit (Ping timeout: 260 seconds)
[18:37] * graphene (~graphene@46.101.134.251) has joined #raspberrypi
[18:37] * pavlushka (~pavlushka@ubuntu/member/pavlushka) has joined #raspberrypi
[18:38] <genr8__> you'd probably want one with an antenna connector, and also bring a larger antenna? and since its in the air, maybe 5ghz then instead of 2.4? for longer range with no obstructions?
[18:40] * Keanu73 (~Keanu73@2ProIntl/User/Geek/Keanu73) has joined #raspberrypi
[18:42] * obihann (~obihann@156.34.187.30) has joined #raspberrypi
[18:42] <genr8__> you dont just need a wifi dongle, you need something good, better than whats onboard. something intended for long range drone flight, and theres probably a ton of noise on 2.4ghz thats why they use 5.8ghz for the FPV flyers
[18:43] * lldd_ (~atrapado@unaffiliated/atrapado) has joined #raspberrypi
[18:44] <genr8__> i found this https://quadquestions.com/blog/2015/06/15/long-range-fpv-setup/
[18:45] <genr8__> idk, maybe you just wanna try a regular ESP8266
[18:45] <genr8__> with a nice antenna
[18:46] <Error451> well ... since we're aswering questions ..
[18:46] <Error451> :D
[18:46] <mfa298> shortstheory: it's possible that you're having issues with that as I don't think wifi works that well if the distance between the two stations is changing rapidly.
[18:46] * waveform (~waveform@waveform.plus.com) Quit (Quit: Leaving)
[18:46] <Error451> I want to run Kodi on a RasPi as analoque audio uotput to my AV-receiver
[18:47] <Error451> are there any nice DAC boards I should know of ?
[18:47] <shortstheory> genr8__, thanks :) this is actually a project for ArduPilot. They want a low cost way of doing it without too much specialised hardware like you would need in an FPV setup
[18:47] <genr8__> its complicated
[18:48] <shortstheory> mfa298, that's also true, but I got much better results with two laptops with one of them running in AP mode. The Pi's antenna is just too weak unfortunately
[18:48] <shortstheory> I was planning on using this: https://www.google.com/search?client=ubuntu&hs=sZg&channel=fs&tbm=isch&q=722n&chips=q:722n,online_chips:tl+wn722n&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwirqK7k6_vbAhWLso8KHdAZCRMQ4lYIJygA&biw=1544&bih=808&dpr=1.2
[18:49] <genr8__> Error451: SPDIF ?
[18:49] <shortstheory> But the problem is that the chipset doesn't work in AP mode due to a problem with the linux drivers

[18:52] <Error451> the receiver will prolly take that too, but I'm using a multi-source option, so I need old school 2 channel stereo signal
[18:52] <genr8__> thats the same as 3.5mm" headphone output. just get a 3.5MM to RCA adapter
[18:53] * kingmanor (~kingmanor@ool-3f8ff0cd.dyn.optonline.net) Quit (Quit: My MacBook has gone to sleep. ZZZzzz…)

[18:56] <genr8__> shortstheory: message this guy about it https://github.com/abhijeet2096/TL-WN722N-V2
[18:57] * death__ (~I_Died_On@unaffiliated/idiedonce/x-1828535) Quit (Ping timeout: 255 seconds)
[18:57] <genr8__> i have a feeling he will be open to communication on this issue
[18:58] <shortstheory> thanks!
[18:59] <Error451> genr8__ : I use the now from laptop to amp, but the whole idea is to jazz it up a bit, and the RasPi3b+ being dirt cheap, thought, for a pure audio device, I'd look in to putting the savings towards a better sound chip
[19:00] <Error451> and a nice case etc
[19:00] <Error451> less clutter is the motto
[19:04] <genr8__> i cant support that. its dirt cheap because it gives you what you need, now if you want to start upgrading audio equipment you have to buy other things which defeats the purpose, you could just buy a regular DAC for $60 WITHOUT the pi.
[19:05] * AlexPortable (uid7568@gateway/web/irccloud.com/x-ikfiejjczqpbtjzo) Quit (Quit: Connection closed for inactivity)

[19:05] * sigsts (~sigsts@unaffiliated/skyroverr) Quit (Ping timeout: 256 seconds)
[19:05] <genr8__> the best option is to use the digital output of the pi, and run it to better gear that does the DAC and amp
[19:05] * bitmask (~bitmask@pool-100-35-64-150.nwrknj.fios.verizon.net) Quit (Quit: Gone to sleep...)

[19:08] <genr8__> that company seems to be making pseudo-audiophile devices for the r-pi: https://www.allo.com/sparky/digione.html
[19:10] <genr8__> it would be this one: https://www.allo.com/sparky/boss-dac.html
[19:13] * davr0s (~textual@host86-138-235-28.range86-138.btcentralplus.com) Quit (Quit: My MacBook Pro has gone to sleep. ZZZzzz…)

[19:14] * woenx (5f11afaa@gateway/web/freenode/ip.95.17.175.170) Quit (Quit: Page closed)

[19:15] <Error451> genr8__ : it's going to be part of a (for me astounding) €4k entertainment system
[19:16] <Error451> I don't mind throwing a couple of euros in the air to watch it rain
[19:16] <Error451> but I want it to land in a good spot
[19:17] <shortstheory> Side note, my 3B+'s SD card slot seems to no longer be working. Anything I can do to fix it?
[19:17] <artok> shortstheory: tried with multiple sd cards?
[19:17] <shortstheory> Yes :/
[19:17] <genr8__> This company has them too, https://www.hifiberry.com/shop/#boards , but i think the other ones looked higher end.
[19:17] <finalbeta> brianx, I understand that. (there is nothing you can do about that without a TPM chip or something. But I just don't want that info to be plain text. (making it just a little harder)
[19:18] * Obi-Wan (~obi-wan@unaffiliated/obi-wan) has joined #raspberrypi
[19:18] * graphene (~graphene@46.101.134.251) Quit (Remote host closed the connection)
[19:19] <brianx> finalbeta: sounds like security by obscurity.
[19:19] <artok> and my word for rpi audio, I would get usb IO that has proper drivers
[19:19] * graphene (~graphene@46.101.134.251) has joined #raspberrypi
[19:19] <artok> shortstheory: have you checked if the pins are twisted?
[19:19] <genr8__> apparently these exist for only $13: https://www.amazon.com/WINGONEER-PCM2704-coaxial-Raspberry-Raspbian/dp/B01E20GZYI/
[19:20] * czer00 (~quassel@c-76-26-45-89.hsd1.fl.comcast.net) has joined #raspberrypi
[19:20] <finalbeta> brianx, exactly. you can be against that in principle, but that doesn't mean it does't work.
[19:21] <genr8__> 30 euros for a well reviewed one https://www.justboom.co/product/justboom-dac-hat/
[19:22] <Error451> that last one looks decent
[19:22] <brianx> it doesn't work except against the most casual observers finalbeta.
[19:22] <Error451> I mean it looks like what I think what I want looks like
[19:22] <Error451> xD
[19:23] <Error451> I'll bookmark that .. thx genr8__
[19:23] <artok> in the end, if you just have SPDIF out from RPI and the DA is done after that, it's the DA thing to get that sound good
[19:23] <finalbeta> brianx, no arguments here.
[19:23] <Zardoz> Error451: you following me on IRC :P
[19:23] <Error451> thing is .. I haven't yet explored all the capabilities of my new receiver
[19:24] <Error451> Zardoz .. not intentionally
[19:24] <Error451> xD
[19:24] <Zardoz> lol
[19:24] <genr8__> you want the receiver to have TosLink optical or Coaxial digital...
[19:24] <genr8__> both are SPDIF digital formats
[19:25] <genr8__> then you can get the digital out, and let the receiver decode it
[19:25] <Error451> the receiver takes pretty much any connection you can think of, optical, digtal, analogue .. I think they made it bigger so there's be enough room on the back side for all the connections
[19:26] <Error451> but without sources I can't check which ones work together for multi-source
[19:26] <genr8__> right. so much time was wasted talking about analog. at any rate they're going to have a digital in and you need to use it
[19:27] <Error451> genr8__ : thing is that according to everything I see and can find, I can only use analogue for 2nd audio channel (different speakers)
[19:28] <genr8__> :/
[19:28] <Error451> it's a 7.2 system ( currently just 2 + 2 ) that I devided up in to 2 zones
[19:28] * Fulgen (~Fulgen@078132081030.public.t-mobile.at) has joined #raspberrypi

[19:30] <Error451> but I don't have the devices to check
[19:30] * stekro (~stekro@x590e1ea9.dyn.telefonica.de) has joined #raspberrypi
[19:30] <shortstheory> artok, visual inspection looks okay. Is it safe to remove the enclosure?
[19:30] <Error451> because my receiver gets more updates than windows
[19:30] <shortstheory> the microsd enclousre that is
[19:31] <artok> shortstheory: might be that it's not helping anything
[19:33] * romano2k (~romano2k@unaffiliated/romano2k) Quit (Ping timeout: 264 seconds)
