[1:16] <shbrngdo> djapo - what would be the best place for something like that? Ideally it's a place where investors look for projects to invest in, not me having to advertise to get people interested...
[1:17] <shbrngdo> everything I've found out via research on crowd sourcing suggests that you have to do marketing/advertising for your project to become successful. That's something I generally *suck* at [marketing] as opposed to engineering.
[1:17] * Colti (Miramar-FL@unaffiliated/colti) has joined #raspberrypi
[1:17] <shbrngdo> but yeah the best sites would require you have a working prototype, and then list what you need done, etc. as part of the business plan to crowdfund.

[3:12] <{HD}> any reason I should not power the raspi from gpio? If I do decide to can I +5v on pin02 or pin04?
[3:14] <Khaytsus> It's fine, just don't get it backwards.. and it's 2 and 6, not 4 ?
[3:15] * Blubberbub (~Nobody@p5DC73685.dip0.t-ipconnect.de) Quit (Ping timeout: 265 seconds)
[3:15] <Khaytsus> there's no protection at all over the gpio though.. not for spikes, reverse polarity, etc... it's a bit more dangerous
[3:15] * Blubberbub (~Nobody@p5DC73685.dip0.t-ipconnect.de) has joined #raspberrypi
[3:15] <{HD}> 06 is gnd... I was asking if I could +5v on either 02 or 04 since they both appear to be +5v
[3:16] <Khaytsus> Dunno, always heard 2/6.. are 2 and 4 common or just both +5v.
[3:17] * Flynnn (~textual@unaffiliated/flynnn) has joined #raspberrypi
[3:18] <Khaytsus> ah, it seems to be the same pin.. so that's fine.
[3:18] <{HD}> Ok cool. So 2 and 4 are just bridged.
[3:21] <Khaytsus> ohhhhhhhhh, old pi's pin 4 you didn't use. It asn't connected i guess.
[3:21] <Khaytsus> so yeah 2 and 4 are common according to schematics of modern pi's

[8:30] <MoPower_UPS> DanLR: they look nice.. looks like clones of the 'standard' Pi/Arduino sensors from China.
[8:31] <MoPower_UPS> in a different form factor
[8:31] <HrdwrBoB> oooh
[8:31] <HrdwrBoB> that's nice
[8:31] <HrdwrBoB> I have solderd so many goddamn things :)
[8:32] <HrdwrBoB> I just changed to doing this as well, but the hard way
[8:32] <HrdwrBoB> wiring in the plugs etc, but that's awesome
[8:34] <DanLR> MoPower_UPS: Yes I like their modularity, and they have the environmental sensors I'm interested in (e.g. dust, temp, UV). Just hard to find many opinions.
[8:34] <HrdwrBoB> DanLR: most stuff is more-or-less the same shit
[8:35] <HrdwrBoB> it's just in a handy form factor
[8:35] <MoPower_UPS> hrdrbob is right.
[8:35] <MoPower_UPS> same stuff.
[8:35] <MoPower_UPS> the hard part is finding software support for that particular hardware chip
[8:35] <DanLR> Yeah. For example I saw the exact same dust (particle) detector used by multiple manufacturers in their sensors.
[8:35] <MoPower_UPS> usually when it comes from China for a few dollars you know they are making tons of them.. so they have become more or less 'standard'
[8:36] <DanLR> Got it. Is there a forum somewhere were people collect experiences?
[8:36] <HrdwrBoB> https://i.imgur.com/k3jfYB1.jpg you end up with lots of these sketches
[8:36] <HrdwrBoB> https://github.com/hrdwrbob/eingauge/blob/master/wiring.md and documentation of all your stupid connectors
[8:36] <DanLR> Nice :)
[8:36] <MoPower_UPS> I generally just google the hardware and tack on "raspberry pi"

[8:37] <HrdwrBoB> I've moved a lot of the smarts for my project to an ESP32
[8:37] <MoPower_UPS> a ton of support for those!
[8:37] <HrdwrBoB> which is a moderately powerful arduino
[8:37] <HrdwrBoB> and it communicates to the pi over canbus

[8:41] <MoPower_UPS> I am having a little serial issue with the Pi, maybe someone has an idea of what it can be.. using GPIO serial receiving data, every second or so it seems to lose data for about 50-100ms, not corrupt, it's just not there. Like a buffer overflow. No messages in /var/log/. Here is the funny thing.. NO PROBLEMS at all on the LITE version of stretch, going to the full desktop version causes problems. Tried a different Pi.. a 3
[8:41] <MoPower_UPS> nd 2018-06-27 (+ an upgrade), the issues seems to follow only the desktop version. Wrote fresh SD/USB copies multiple times. I swaped the mini and 'full uart' as well, no luck. Locked core freq, same thing. Anyone have any idea of what it may be or something else to try?

[15:16] <oneirosFade> Hey all. Looking for recommendations as to a small (SD card is 2G max) distro for a *headless* Pi 0 W. Ideally, I can flash the card, tweak some files on it locally to enable SSH/WiFi, plug it in to the unit, and boot. Raspbian minimal seems to contain a lot of garbage (but possibly slimming it post-install is a last ditch option), Alpine and TCL are both small but not apparently do-able in a headless...
[15:16] <oneirosFade> any other ideas?

[15:25] <shiftplusone> not sure how much Arch takes up, but it can't be more than 2G
[15:26] <oneirosFade> Well the thing is that I want the OS to take up as little as possible, leaving room for the application I'm putting on there
[15:26] <oneirosFade> Ideally I'd like to avoid systemd distros, so I don't have that morass of init dependencies

[20:06] <mlankhorst> hey, I built a custom v4.17.3 kernel for my pi according to the info at https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/linux/kernel/building.md , but with the custom kernel my gstreamer pipeline fails because rpicamsrc | h264parse drops all frames
[20:07] <mlankhorst> moving back to the v4.14.x kernel from rpi-update works, is this a bug?
