[1:02] <lenswipe> hey folks
[1:02] <lenswipe> back again (had to go out earlier)
[1:02] <lenswipe> Got a pi zerow here used as a print server
[1:03] <lenswipe> Print jobs sent to it make the printer light flash but are immediately marked as "complete" in CUPS. Wondered where I can go from here
[1:04] * finalbeta (~finalbeta@ptr-e2o38d3vamjsb1ezw1f.18120a2.ip6.access.telenet.be) Quit (Ping timeout: 252 seconds)

[1:08] * alex_giusi_tiri (~yaaic@modemcable030.207-19-135.mc.videotron.ca) Quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
[1:11] <BurtyB> I would assume so, no idea where they are though as the last time I really looked at it was decades ago
[1:12] <lenswipe> BurtyB, oh, that's interesting...
[1:12] <lenswipe> There's stuff in here I didn't see the last time I checked
[1:13] <lenswipe> I'm not sure what it means, but clearly it's unhappy with something
[1:14] <lenswipe> BurtyB, https://gist.github.com/robertmain/7392fbfe6e65599cb32d094ce44027f7#file-gistfile1-txt-L88-L119 check that out

[1:31] <BurtyB> lenswipe, has it ever worked? I'd prob start by running "file /opt/..." to see what kind of exe it's having a problem with
[1:33] <Snert> straight to the printer with a cable to start?
[1:34] <lenswipe> BurtyB, Snert the pi has NEVER successfully printed
[1:34] <lenswipe> however a USB cable from my i386 laptop to the printer works perfectly
[1:35] * finlstrm (~quassel@pool-96-253-61-204.prvdri.fios.verizon.net) Quit (Quit: Bye, bye.)
[1:35] <lenswipe> I'm wondering if it's an architecture problem
[1:35] <Snert> but you have sucessfully printer strait to the printer?
[1:35] <Snert> from your computer I mean.
[1:35] * finlstrm (~quassel@pool-96-253-61-204.prvdri.fios.verizon.net) has joined #raspberrypi
[1:35] <lenswipe> yes
[1:35] <lenswipe> not via the pi
[1:35] <lenswipe> but yes
[1:36] <lenswipe> usb cable from my computer to the print
[1:36] <lenswipe> file > print
[1:36] <lenswipe> works perfectly
[1:36] <Snert> ok so likely not a driver thing

[3:00] <fas3r> I have a L298N and a NEMA 17 stepper motor of < 5v, do I need to plug an additional external DC alimentation or I can just use the 5v from the raspberry ?

[3:11] <fas3r> friendofafriend: "NEMA17 0.9 Degree 42mm Two Phase Hybrid Stepper Motor 1.33A 34mm For CNC"
[3:11] <fas3r> 1.33A
[3:13] <_unreal_> fas3r, 5v is fr logic.. motor power is much higher
[3:13] <_unreal_> and you may need the PWM chip as well
[3:13] <_unreal_> fas3r, is your motor bipolar or unipolar?
[3:14] * WARlrus (~freenode@home.mattdyson.org) Quit (Ping timeout: 264 seconds)
[3:14] * wildlander (~wildlande@unaffiliated/wildlander) Quit (Ping timeout: 245 seconds)
[3:15] * WARlrus (~freenode@home.mattdyson.org) has joined #raspberrypi
[3:15] <fas3r> _unreal_: it's not indicated :/
[3:15] <_unreal_> fas3r, you have no clue what your doing do you....
[3:15] <_unreal_> how many wires does the motor have
[3:15] <fas3r> 5
[3:16] <_unreal_> ok. that means its ether unipolar or star series
[3:16] <_unreal_> likely unipolar....
[3:16] * Tobbi (~Tobbi@supertux/tobbi) Quit (Quit: My MacBook has gone to sleep. ZZZzzz…)
[3:16] <_unreal_> l298 is for a bipolar motor
[3:16] <_unreal_> bipolar motors have 4 wires ONLY
[3:17] <_unreal_> er oh no no never mind thinking of an other hcip sorry
[3:17] <_unreal_> yes its unipolar
[3:17] <fas3r> _unreal_: it's this one : https://www.banggood.com/JKM-Nema-17-0_9-Degree-42mm-Two-Phase-Hybrid-Stepper-Motor-1_33A-34mm-For-CNC-p-990669.html?cur_warehouse=CN
[3:19] <_unreal_> I knew I was right https://www.sparkfun.com/datasheets/Robotics/L298_H_Bridge.pdf l298 is bipolar
[3:20] <_unreal_> you could do a funky setup like this to do unipolar though I would not suggest it https://robotics.stackexchange.com/questions/10285/using-a-six-wire-stepper-motor-with-l298n
[3:20] <fas3r> _unreal_: ok
[3:20] <fas3r> I in bought this one : https://www.banggood.com/Wholesale-Dual-H-Bridge-DC-Stepper-Motor-Drive-Controller-Board-Module-Arduino-L298N-p-42826.html?rmmds=search
[3:20] <_unreal_> HBRIDGE is for bipolor motors
[3:21] <fas3r> ok ...
[3:21] <_unreal_> ok that is a bipolar motor
[3:21] <_unreal_> JKM NEMA17 0.9 Degree 42mm Two Phase Hybrid Stepper Motor 1.33A 34mm For CNC
[3:21] <_unreal_> note the hybridge
[3:21] <fas3r> yes
[3:22] <_unreal_> 5 wire motors can not run on Hbridge controllers
[3:22] <_unreal_> unless you want to see smoke
[3:22] <fas3r> ^^
[3:23] * snowgoggles (~snowgoggl@dhcp-c-b6-d2-83-34-5a.cpe.i-zoom.net) Quit (Quit: Leaving)
[3:24] <fas3r> _unreal_: I have also some ULN2003, I have some 28BYJ-48 that I wanted to replace, there are too many steps in those motors
[3:25] * fredp (~fredp@unaffiliated/fredp) has joined #raspberrypi
[3:25] <_unreal_> uln2003 is very very low power and that is for unipolar motors or for driving simple things like relays.
[3:25] * seriema (~seriema@h-41-178.A904.priv.bahnhof.se) has joined #raspberrypi
[3:25] <fas3r> oki
[3:26] <_unreal_> what are you trying to do
[3:26] * finalbeta (~finalbeta@ptr-e2o38d3vamjsb1ezw1f.18120a2.ip6.access.telenet.be) has joined #raspberrypi
[3:26] <fas3r> a pan tilt but with fast RPM
[3:26] * plasmoduck (~cjg@unaffiliated/plasmoduck) has joined #raspberrypi
[3:26] <_unreal_> pan tilt what?
[3:27] <_unreal_> robot arm, camera turrent, machine gun torrent?
[3:27] <friendofafriend> Probably missile tech.
[3:27] <_unreal_> burger flipper?
[3:27] <fas3r> ^^
[3:27] <fas3r> it's for a head
[3:27] <fas3r> so yeah camera turrent
[3:28] <_unreal_> how big of a camera?
[3:28] <fas3r> I would like the base to be able to rotate really fast
[3:28] <_unreal_> what s the weight?
[3:29] <_unreal_> you really need to start producing details or I'm going to loose interest and go back to doing what I was doing...
[3:29] <fas3r> so basically I will use a reflex camera, the weight will be between 500 and 600g
[3:29] <_unreal_> so far what you have kind of described and what you have for hardware are a FOOLS direction...... and you would be far better off buying a pantilt system for $100 USD
[3:30] * seriema (~seriema@h-41-178.A904.priv.bahnhof.se) Quit (Ping timeout: 268 seconds)
[3:30] <_unreal_> so 600g is about 1.5 lbs that little motor is hardly strong enough to do what your looking to do. and fast is a JOKE
[3:30] * tdy (~tdy@unaffiliated/tdy) Quit (Ping timeout: 258 seconds)
[3:30] <fas3r> _unreal_: for sure, Ican only agree, for now I use the pi cam and some light equipment to see if what I want to do can work
[3:31] <_unreal_> you A: would have to gear it way down. which means a lot of RPM to have power. which means slow becuase stepper motors are not fast
[3:31] <_unreal_> you would be far better off looking at drone/quadcopyter pantilt camera hardware
[3:32] <_unreal_> which use high speed high power brushless servo motors...
[3:32] * seriema (~seriema@h-41-178.A904.priv.bahnhof.se) has joined #raspberrypi
[3:33] <_unreal_> and they are designed to take direction input
[3:33] <fas3r> I will do that, I'm better at coding, the electronic part is quite new
[3:34] <_unreal_> fas3r, check out the room #multiotors
[3:34] <_unreal_> its geared twards quadcopyters but the hardware your looking at is what they deal with
[3:35] <fas3r> in freenode ?
[3:35] <_unreal_> the direction control is all simle serial. or liner analog
[3:35] <_unreal_> yes
[3:35] <fas3r> ok
[3:35] <_unreal_> #multirotors
[3:35] <fas3r> thanks

[10:12] <TiesOfMind> Hello everybody. I'm having an issue, and I'm hoping that somebody can help me to find the solution. I'm working with a pi 3b running Ubuntu Mate. I'm running it as a samba server with four 1TB USB hard drives off of a USB hub (set up as a RAID 5 array). I'm getting I/O errors when trying to do much of anything with the SD card, so I figure that it's well and truly busted and it's time to see about putting together a new one.
[10:12] <TiesOfMind> Well, At this point, I have installed the OS on a new micro SD card, and it runs fine from that, but it's not recognizing the RAID array (I didn't think that it would without the proper settings and all). My question is, where can I find the information from my previous SD card to get the new one to recognize the existing raid array?

[10:29] <gordonDrogon> the kernel used to auto-detect mdadm raid arrays but that functionality was deprecate dfor some reason that irritated me at the time.
[10:30] <gordonDrogon> you ought to be able to simply run mdadm to re-assembly the array: something like mdadm --assemble /dev/md1 /dev/sda{1,2,3,4}

[12:08] <Phischi> ah

[23:10] <Encrypt> Hello everyone!
[23:10] <Encrypt> Has anyone here tried the official TV Hat?
[23:11] * snowgoggles (~snowgoggl@dhcp-c-b6-d2-83-34-5a.cpe.i-zoom.net) has joined #raspberrypi
[23:13] <friendofafriend> Howdy Encrypt! Did you get one, I remember you talking about it.
[23:13] <friendofafriend> s/./?
[23:13] <Encrypt> Oh yes friendofafriend :)
[23:13] <Encrypt> I'm good and you?
[23:14] <friendofafriend> Doing just fantastic, thank you. I believe that hat works through the LinuxDVB subsystem like other tuners.
[23:15] <friendofafriend> So you can use w_scan to scan for signal, and zap, vlc, something else to tune.

[23:21] <Encrypt> friendofafriend, I didn't get one, I'm considering buying one
[23:21] <Encrypt> I'd like to set up a mediacenter, my father would like to record TV sometimes but we don't have the hardwar to do so

[23:21] <Encrypt> With a RPi, a TV Hat, Kodi and tvheadend it's completely possible
[23:23] <ShorTie> bummer, they no good in the US
[23:24] * fredp (~fredp@unaffiliated/fredp) has joined #raspberrypi
[23:24] <friendofafriend> Yeah, DVB-T2.
[23:26] <friendofafriend> Probably the best part of a TV tuner is capturing the entire transponder, instead of just one station at a time.
[23:26] <friendofafriend> So you can watch or capture the main channel and all subchannels.
[23:27] * RokLobsta (~Dirkka@119-18-13-51.cust.aussiebb.net) has joined #raspberrypi
[23:29] <jarod> DVB-T2 with HEVC?
[23:30] <friendofafriend> DVB-T2, the format is up to you.
[23:31] * TheSin (~TheSin@gateway.bluefalls.ca) Quit (Quit: Client exiting)
[23:33] <friendofafriend> So h264 decoding is hardware accelerated on the Pi, but h265 decoding isn't. That's not really a show-stopper, if your intent is just to send a transport stream out to your LAN.
